The RetroLounge Daily Poem Thread (Mon 2/13/06)
Edited on Mon Feb-13-06 01:54 AM by RetroLounge
the way it is now

I'll tell you
I've lived with some gorgeous women
and I was so bewitched by those
beautiful creatures that
my eyebrows twitched.

but I'd rather drive to New York
backwards
than to live with any of them
again.

the next classic stupidity
will be the history
of those fellows
who inherit my female
legacies.

in their case
as in mine
they will find
that madness
is caused by not
being often enough
alone.

Charles Bukowski

1. Who killed Cock Robin?
Who killed Cock Robin?
I, said the Dick
Like all birds, he moved quick
I killed Cock Robin."

Who saw him die?
I, said the GOP Pioneer
He was just visiting here
I saw him die.

Who caught his blood?
I, said the nurse
After Dick took his purse
I caught his blood.

Who'll make the shroud?
I, said the Turd
Not a word will be heard
I'll make the shroud

Who'll dig his grave?
I, said the Veep
We'll bury him deep
I'll dig his grave.

Who'll be the parson?
I, said the Smirk
Cos blessin's hard work
I'll be the parson

2. Is this some new posting record for you?
Geez, it's literally Monday - but hey... are you sleeping in tomorrow??

Best line:

in their case
as in mine
they will find
that madness
is caused by not
being often enough
alone.

3. Change
Change

Change
Said the sun to the moon,
You cannot stay.

Change
Says the moon to the waters,
All is flowing.

Change
Says the fields to the grass,
Seed-time and harvest,
Chaff and grain.

You must change said,
Said the worm to the bud,
Though not to a rose,

Petals fade
That wings may rise
Borne on the wind.

You are changing
said death to the maiden, your wan face
To memory, to beauty.

Are you ready to change?
Says the thought to the heart, to let her pass
All your life long

For the unknown, the unborn
In the alchemy
Of the world's dream?

You will change,
says the stars to the sun,
Says the night to the stars.

Kathleen Raine

6. Seems like
everybodies up early for a Monday morning.

but I'd rather drive to New York
backwards
than to live with any of them
again.

Sometimes I feel my whole life is lived backwards.

9. Scrolling through the poem
I wondered if this was one of your own. I definitely heard it in your (imagined) voice.

Wistfulness can turn to wisdom.

I hope your birthday is fucking great, pal! :loveya:
