I hate Valentine's Day
When I was single it sucked. Now with marriage it's like a 24 hour quest for the Perfect Romantic Day Ever.
And if one thing goes wrong: "You ruined Valentine's Day"! Auggh. Gag me. It's a very hostile day when you're forced to be all mooshy-love-bunny, but all I really want is just to have a fun day where it doesn't feel like I'm being tested. I wish it would go away. It's not a very good holiday.
With that said, now I have to go get some flowers before my wife senses the taint of what I said.

1. If it's that forced, then it will show
and you both will still have a crappy day.

2. I love valentines day
always thought of it as a un-stressful, happy occasion and a reminder to show all those you love a gesture of love.
I never thought of trying to make it the perfect romantic day.
Just spending time and remembering the most important words in
the English language

3. i feel the same way...
but sometimes we have to consider how our wives/girlfriends feel...no matter how much of a hallmark scam i think valentines day is...

i know when my wife gets a dozen red roses and some balloons delivered to her at work she feels very very good...loved even...go figure...i go ahead and forget my feelings on the subject and just go for the gesture...it her case it is appreciated...

4. I do, too
but I don't have a girlfriend for Valen...uh, Feb. 14. Getting birthday and anniversary correct is hard enough. To add, it's looking like a possible one is not going to happen--she doesn't sound ready for one at this point in time.

On a better note--I saved a bunch of money by switching to Geico.

7. I don't "get" my family anything. I decorate the dining room in a theme
cook them dinner, and then enjoy them to pieces! This year we are traveling to Italy (in honor of the Olympics) on our mini vacation! :hi:

11. Oh! We're not really going! This year Italy comes to our dining room
for one night! The children and I have fun studying up on the different locations and then we plan a menu and decorate. :) This year, my daughter's French teacher (he's Greek, but also lived in Italy) has helped us out immensely.

31. not so fast, red
While I love her, she does not feel the same way about me (she "likes to spend time with me", she does not "love" me). She has never led me on. She has always been honest.

Nothing has changed...except she is lonely...

She is looking for something...else... she is looking for wealth and her father's approval. We would already be married if I was wealthy... I am not, nor will I ever be... so it ain't gonna happen (rich people only marry rich people, or so it seems).

GOD, SHE MAKES ME MAD!

anywho, it was nice for her to call...

17. If you feel like you're being tested and forced and...
one "wrong" move means you "ruined" Valentine's Day, I'd say that's an issue with your wife and not Valentine's Day itself.

21. I agree with you on that one. I couldn't live with a woman that demanding
and with that many issues.

She needs a reality check, and a sense of herself that doesn't depend on other people catering to her every need.

26. You are not alone.
But I detest all the holidays. I don't like the idea of culturally mandated spending sprees.

I don't like my emotional life being manipulated by the greeting card industry or the
flower industry or anything else.

I try, and on some days, live as if my family and friends are treasured every day.
I give gifts and expressions of love when they are appropriate or when I feel
like expressing them.

My greatest loathing is reserved for Christmas. Don't even get me started on that one.

35. I can appreciate your feelings
But I must say the DUL'ers know how to make us all feel appreciated on v-day. I got 2 two secret valentines...and I really love them. So does my spouse, mainly because we won't be able to celebrate tomorrow because we are both so busy.

Please give the DU a donation of 5 bucks (I happen to give each month as a subscriber) if you have it and donate it in favor of your DUL'er..or someone else. It's worth five bucks.

:hi:

37. Black Tuesday
That's what my friends are calling it this year. Every year they refer to it as a black day, whatever day of the week it happens to be.

I can understand. It can be a terribly depressing day. Or terribly frustrating.

T.
