TSA wants my fingerprints |
|
I went to renew my CDL today. I was told that to get a Hazmat endorsement I gotta apply to the TSA, get fingerprinted, and get an FBI background check. And, by the way, pay them $94. :grr: So, how was your day?

I never renewed my Hazmat. I still have my CDL but I doubt I'll ever need it again.
My day was great! I'm still day dreaming about the cross country trike ride I'm planning for this summer..

We only got 2 inches of snow in Ulster County NY.
I'm taking my laptop on my trip so I can stay in-touch with DU. I may need to PM you with a few questions when I have a better idea about routes I'm considering. If that's okay with you. It'll be mid-summer so I want to avoid going through desert lands. I am returning on a southern route but not along any of the areas affected by last years tragedy.

Some of these new post 9/11 laws are ridiculous. I have a friend who's father is in the fireworks business. The ATF wants them to build a wall around their storage facility that is impassable by an 8 ton vehicle. For some fireworks. Around an insanely large storage facility which already has a 6 foot fence around it.
Hope your week gets better...

As long as TSA doesn't hold DU membership against me, it will :)

5. Is that to renew your Hazmat endorsement |
|
or to add Hazmat to your existing CDL?
Just curious as my dad's Hazmat is about to expire. He doesn't need it anymore since he retired, but I thought I'd let him know.
(Although he does haul a little grain now for some extra money. Not hazardous, though)

10. I got a question for you, liberaltrucker!!! |
|
What is the fasted way to stop in the snow? A real panic type stop. Would engine braking (jake brake) help?

13. NEVER, NEVER use a Jake on any slick road |
|
First of all keep your distance. If you do that, a panic stop should never happen. However, some idiot might pass and hit his brakes. In that case, if you have ABS, you're probably OK. If not, you gotta learn how to manually modulate the air pressure to your breaking system. I'd recommend practicing the technique before your have to use it.

But in an air brake system there's some lag, unlike a hydraulic system, where there's instant response.
