Bob Jones University even bans CHRISTIAN music?
What's the point of that? I noticed while looking through a summary of their rules (which one of my friends acurrately summed up as Saudi Arabia transformed into an American university) and I noticed this:

The University has strict rules regarding music: Country, Jazz, New Age, Rock, Rap, and Contemporary Christian music are all off-limits to BJU students.

OK, why do they ban Christian music as well? That makes no sense.

3. A lot of fundies think contemporary christian is sinful
because it borrows from popular music forms they believe are inherently evil. Even if the staff there doesn't feel that way (they probably do) letting the students battle it out to see who's fundier than thou would turn ugly quick.

Time for Bach, BB King and some messed up techo remix, brothers!

On edit: That probably all falls under "new age" because BJU is stuck in the 9th century. Guess I was wrong.

45. Blast Verdi's "Anvil Chorus" at full volume on the commons
I tell ya, that's a good song...loud orchestra, 500-pound anvils as percussion instruments, and lyrics about getting drunk and screwing your brains out.

It's all fun until someone from the Department of Foreign Languages happens by and hears what you're playing.

Tell me something: Say I enlisted in BJU--that's the correct word, I didn't have THAT many restrictions in basic training--to study music. And I brought my "instrument"...11-piece Drum Workshop double-bass kit with octabons, mini-timbales and enough cymbals to negatively impact our balance of trade with Switzerland hanging off it. (No, I don't have this kit, but I'd have to get one if I enlisted in BJU.) Exactly how many seconds would it take the powers that be to realize that I'm not interested in playing sacred music?

They're called PDA's = public displays of affection. Not allowed until one is married. Also, most movies are no-no's - unless it's rated G, not Disney, or comes recommended by the church.

These are some seriously deprived people. :scared:

She couldn't believe how we explored the very depth of our souls. She hadn't had such a revealing experience like that in quite some time. Our bodies and souls shook with the heavenly word. We both came through it well, several times for me and countless times for her. It was as if we were in the middle of the Red Sea with wave after wave after wave hitting us.

there is absolutely nothing better than a woman with her strict upbringing seeing the light. ;-)

Because it's eeeeeevillllll
And because they are repressive, dominionist f*ckwits out of the Puritan mold. I wouldn't be surprised if they started requiring chastity belts and burkas (if they haven't already). It's so silly really, because they make students read the Bible, which is full of more smut and violence than any of the music they ban.

13. I actually had a nightmare some time ago about being a BJU student...
It was right after reading the Wikipedia entry on BJU.

They only seem to ban Contemporary Christian music (CCM) as well. A lot of traditional Christian music was composed by the masters (Bach, Beethoven), and if those guys were banned, that would certainly raise my ire. The CCM stuff is a little too chirpy and saccharine for my tastes though. My taste in religious music echoes that of my taste in secular music: old good, new bad (I'm Catholic. Flame on.)
