|
So far the Olympics have not been very productive for the US with a few exception such as Joey Cheek? the speed skater dude then of course the snowboarders but why Bode Miller? I kinda enjoy the fact that he does his own thing and doesn't conform. He seems to play by his own rules. Don't we do that here at DU? As far as the sking while drunk comment it was blown way out of proportion. I remember being 18 and sking after a few beers in the lodge.

When it makes you less marketable. Olympic sponsors don't seem to like that much. Bode doesn't give a shit and just wishes that the press would leave him alone to ski.

However, I haven't been watching the *actual* Olympics, so I wouldn't know how that's been going.

Nike picked who they wanted us to cheer on and be our new Olympic heros. Why not let the games play out and in the end pick those who have shown true Olympic Spirit like Joey Cheeks, who donated his money US gives for medals to a really great charity!

Seriously, unless an American Network can carry it "live" in the future...when I can selfishly enjoy all the results "live" early in the EST a.m. on 40 other channels, and a brazillion internet sites....going to look for an upside down olympic avatar now...I'm just so pissed...this has not been a fun ...oh yeah, and Bode sucks too

29. I wish they would do the "Pay-per-View" thing |
|
I remember when CBS tried that awhile back where for $150 you'd have 3 channels of all Olympics, all time time and very little commetary other than a basic announcer. But people thought that was too much money just so you could watch your favorite sport without intervention.
However, with the advances in Digital Cable and On-Demand, I think I would fork over a few dollars here and there in order to watch (or even re-watch) my favorite sports. I think the original idea was just too much for people just wanting to see specific sports. A Ski fanatic could pay $20 and would get live & complete coverage of all Skiing events along with repeats during off-hours. I would probably do the same for figure-skating, which is my favorite.
As long as NBC controls the Olympics you'd better start looking for that upside-down Olympic symbol because we're going to need it. They've had a lock on the Olympics for too long and their broadcasts try to be too much for too many people: All Style but no substance

I guess they were assuming this dickwad was going to win some medals and Nike was going to capitalize on it.
You know who they should put in their commericials - that gal from China who skated in pairs figure-skating. She slammed straight down onto her knees and still managed to get up and finish an amazing performance and get the silver medal. That's what the Olympics are all about!

If I was in charge of a company, I'd give that girl a contract, plus a "do-nothing" executive job that paid her a shitload of money.
And if she knows any martial arts, I'd pay her to drill Bode Miller in the chin. The last time I have to see him or hear about him can't possibly come soon enough.
I do enjoy rooting against him, though. To see him come home without even a bronze would be GREAT.

And it's a shame that somebody that probably had more class and possibly more talent got bumped to make a spot for him.
I've heard that a lot of talented athletes get looked over and bumped off the American Olympic Team rosters (and only the Americans) because they have a "normal life", no human interest or hardship story behind them as they came from middle class families, they did good in school, their mom didn't turn tricks to buy drugs, they weren't in a gang, their dads don't have cancer, etc. therefore no twenty minute story before a two minute event about how their lives could have turned out different and he/she could have been dead or in jail instead of being at the Olympics.
Nope, they only had great athletic skills and how boring is that?

I had no idea who any of these people were before the Olympics. Now, we're supposed to care, with their cutesy names like "Bode" and "Apollo?" I think it's all just an idiotic PR campaign to get us to care about insipid, tired sports. The biggest attraction in the Winter Olympics is a sport that A) is judged, making its results completely invalid and B) would not be half as popular as it is if the female participants had to wear long leggings.
Please, please, someone kill the Winter Olympics.
