if I hadn't given them a grandchild. Most days I think they'd prefer if I had never been born. They never came out and disowned me because they are afraid that all contact w/ their only grandchild will be cut off. It's the only hand I have to play in this game.

4. I disowned mine. I think that counts for a lot. |

Takes a pile of stones to ignore your mentally ill mother for 12 years.

6. It was a mutual disownment |
|
I just could not stand them anymore.
They were not all that fond of me anyway and they hated my wife.
Don't miss them a bit.

it was a financial thing, really, once they made sure that they personally had inherited all of the money he would have otherwise inherited from the richer generation, and once they had spent all of the money, then they decided that it might be nice to have a son again, it was really weird, it wasn't just a matter of convincing all of the older relatives not to leave him any $$$, but they actually got in his bank acct and stole his pitiful savings (a few thousand dollars) too
i don't know how you get over something like this, but he just lets it roll off, of course, they will never be so close as to be able to get into his financials again

8. I don't know what you mean by "disowned." |
|
Edited on Wed Feb-15-06 01:21 PM by Heidi
My parents adopted me, and we were raised with no sense of ownership by our parents. If you mean "disinherited," that's another thing because my parents have worked hard their entire lives for their prosperity, and I feel _absolutely no sense of entitlement_ to one cent. In fact, I hope my parents spend every penny before they die. It's _their_ money, just as I am _my own_.
If by "disowned" you mean a forced estrangement, that doesn't exist between my parents and me. They're beautiful people, and not too old at all. They're more like my friends than my parents. They have their lives. I have mine.
