Plus, my sister has told me that she has been taped, padded, bound, creatively painted, and criticized for all manner of things.

And that doesn't even count the hours of daily exercise, the diet guilt, and the exhaustive (and expensive) regimens of prep work.

So, I get a little bit bitter when women are held to an *imaginary* ideal.

Photo retouching can elongate legs, erase any dimples, lines, ripples, wrinkles, or other marks on the skin, enhance cleavage, smooth hips, narrow waists, slim thighs, add tan, whiten eyeballs, brighten eye color, erase stray hairs, make hair look thicker, whiten teeth...just about anything and everything.

My daughter and I were looking through a Victoria's Secret catalog recently and noticed that a photo modeling a pair of pants had been retouched to the point that the back seam on the rear end of the pants was missing!

I can see airbrushing out the stretch marks and skin imperfections but apparently they're not even allowed to have bones and knuckle lines on their hands. The perfect woman is evidently completely smooth and orange. :shrug:

. . .but when my copy shows up in the mail, i just throw it in the recycle bin. It's not what i get SI for. If i wanted that sort of thing, i'd just buy Playboy, and i never do. I really don't care to look at pictures of hotties. I admit they're beautiful, but i'm not going to sit around looking at their pictures. That just seems like a waste of time.

We all have an idea of what's attractive to each of us . The women in this issue of SI are certainly beautiful. I wish them well. I prefer imperfection. It's more interesting and definitely more compelling, in my opinion.

There's a photo of Anne V (must be a new SI model) wearing a one-piece gold metallic swimsuit, and a centerfold of Heidi Klum doning a one-piece that's, um . . . airbrushed on. :wow: There's a beautiful layout with Heidi, but I don't want to be a spoiler here. :)

Fernanda Motta and Pania Rose are wearing one-pieces that doesn't leave much to the imagination from the waist up.

41. I have one really good thing to say about the SI swimsuit issue

too many times we see this anorexic waifs modeling clothes and on the cover of magazines which gives a real hit to those of us who are no longer size 2 (not that it's a bad thing but not everyone can be that size).

SI have always used gals who've got some curves to them for their swimsuit models. Some of those gals look size 2 but it's nice to see a few that are probably size 6-8. Sure, none of them are the size 16 that I am (who wants that on the cover) but it's nice to see gals who are normally weighted and not something out of a refugee camp.

I noticed one year that no models had any wedding rings, or evidence thereof, even though I knew some were married. I'm sure that decision was focused grouped and intentional.
