I'm guessing they working-classed him uip a bit because Americans find posh accents too offputting.

8. In direct marketing it is widely believed that Americans will listen
to a sales pitch longer if it is done in any form of British accent. And by ANY I mean Aussie, Irish, New Zealand, etc.

...now he's cockney. I was puzzling over this recently myself (and obviously need to find a new hobby).

Actually, the really sad thing is that the gecko is an improvement on those obnoxious "I've got good news" commercials that beat the same old unfunny joke to death.

The gecko still has to die, though.
