Back when I worked for the state of Texas, you could choose your holidays
Employees could get their choice between Martin Luther King Day or Confederate Veterans' Day for their paid late winter holiday. For some reason, they didn't allow you to take both days off.

Cheapskates! What if I want to celebrate both?

1. We get them both now
Actually I think they call it Confederate Heroes Day or some such. Technically that one is a skeleton crew holiday- enough people have to work to ensure someone is there to deal with phones and stuff but they get holiday time off later. I usually work on those holidays so I can use the time later. I only usually take off the major ones.
