Do you ever see elderly folks and wonder what they've been through? |
|
When I see these folks, especially veterans of WW2, or older African-Americans, I wonder what their life's tribulations have been.
I think about how they made it through seeing their buddies die, or not being allowed to drink out of a water fountain. I find it inspiring, somewhat, to think that these folks are survivors. They are examples of the resilience of mankind.

1. Yes, and then comes the fear that I'll be one of them. Or not. |

I am learning that I have a real problem with getting older.
But to your question, I tend to look at older people...and other people, generally... to see if I can read their lives on their face. You know those people with that eternal frown/scowl/mean expression on their face? You know they weren't born like that. Wonder what happened.
With older folks, I figure they're all just so, so tired with the whole thing.

2. Yes, and I've gotten to spend a lot of time with some of them |
|
through my hospice volunteer work. I sit with them and listen to their stories, their hopes, their dreams, their fears....It's pretty great and very inspirational.

3. Yes, but not just older people. |
|
I find myself wanting to know the stories of most people I see.

4. Yes. They went through much. Most of those who went through |
|
WWII are very old.
And they made the world a better place.
