Chase Credit Card
I recall a thread awhile back about problems with Chase. I just noticed on my latest bill that my rate somehow has changed from 7.9 to 13.49%! I don't know when they changed it, or why... I thought I had a special deal on a rate with them. Originally it was 4.9%, but they jacked it up because a payment I tried to make online ended up a day late because of web technicalities! This time I don't know what on earth happened!! These people are really starting to annoy me! Anyone know a good credit card I can transfer a LARGE balance to???!

1. Now that our protections from that kind of abuse are being taken away,
no, there are no good credit cards.

You're only bet is to pay that SOB off as quickly as you can and never use it again.

I do everything via a VISA debit card now - it's both financially sound (I'm only spending money I have), and easier (don't have to worry about late payments), and works everywhere that VISA works.

2. thanks - good advice
but for now I'm really caught in the debt trap... not enough money in my paycheck to cover all the bills, and then when ANYthing else comes up (car repairs, vet emergencies, what have you) I have no choice but to pay by credit card yet again! A fine mess I've gotten myself into... can't seem to find a way out.... but I sure hope I live long enough to be able to do things the way you suggest!! VERY WISE!!

3. Call them and tell them you are cancelling your credit card after you
switch to a lower interest one and tell them why. Citicard did this to us a couple of times and try to accuse us of "slowpay" which is silly because I keep our statements and was able to say this wasn't so...after they could not change our mind they offered to lower it back down again...to which we said, no thanks.

4. Credit union?
If you're a member of a credit union, check with them. If you're not, check around and see if there's a CU you can join. Your parents, for instance, may be part of a CU that allows children to open accounts. I know in San Francisco there's a CU that allows membership for any resident of the City.

8. I do have one...
but the line of credit they give me is very modest.... the amount I owe Chase is HUGE! :/

They really conned me. Originally I was going to cancel that card because of their annual fee.... they waived the "nasty little fee" and then convinced me to transfer all my credit card balances to them at a great rate... but now they sure are screwing me around!!!

10. I switched to a low interest card and now I get two or three calls
a day (literally!) from this bank's call center in India trying to sell me special features like fraud protection or a platinum card etc. The real scam is that if I listen to the entire garbled spiel, I somehow end up signed up for the special service. So far I've had to call back and cancel two such features at $13 and $7.99 a month respectively. "Fraud" protection indeed!

11. We are getting ready to join the local credit union. Their rates are
good, they don't support the monster credit machine, and they help all kinds of people. Where we live there is one called Consumer Credit Union--a deposit of $5 makes you a member. Maybe you have such a thing near you. Good luck!
