BLAIRSVILLE, Ga. -- A community is divided.

The question of whether to keep a principal who was suspended after being accused of using school computers to send pornographic pictures is causing mixed emotions in north Georgia.

Pictures of nude women were sent to five faculty members at Union County High School in an e-mail with the caption, "It is large breast appreciation week once again."

The porn was sent to colleagues on school computers during school hours in Blairsville, Ga.

School Superintendent Tommy Stevens said the pictures were sent by Union County High School Principal Ed Rohrbaugh. The school board suspended the Rohrbaugh for five days, but he is now back from suspension. After the incident, the school board renewed his contract for next year.

"He didn't try to cover it up. Didn't deny it. He was very forthright about it. And he knows he made a mistake," Superintendent Tommy Stevens said.

The superintendent said Rohrbaugh has a spotless record, has been punished and has apologized.

Some in the community think the suspension the principal received was enough.

"He didn't put them anyplace that they could be seen by children," Joe White said.

People who support Rohrbaugh think he deserves a break.

The guy did something stupid, dumb, and unethical, and did it on the taxpayer's property - and he apologized for it.

If his judgment is so bad that he doesn't realize it's idiotic to send porn on the work computers (at a SCHOOL!), how good is his judgment in matters of being a principal? This isn't a cube farm - it's a frigging school.

I don't necessarily think it's always the right thing to fire someone who does something like this but when you're in charge of "molding young minds", firing off boob shots on the school's computer smacks of someone who I don't really want in charge of my kids.

I don't believe in mandatory minimums, I don't believe in zero tolerance policies and I don't believe in one-size-fits-all rules like "either we believe people deserve a second chance, or we don't." I believe each case should be decided on its merit and I don't believe a guy who shows such a lack of judgment belongs in a school setting. That's just my opinion and nothing personal about what you said originally.

Which leads me to my next remark which is that it's not fair to make a personal judgment on me just because I didn't agree with you. 22. I used to work construction

None of that shit bothers me at all. Quite frankly, in my job in construction, I just ignored anyone who wanted to play stupid, sophmoric games around me, did my job and didn't worry about it. There was a lot of banter on the job that no doubt would have been construed as sexual harassment. Whatever. I can give as good as I get and as long as no one is trying to tell me I can't work there, I don't really care.

I spent all one day working with some fucking assclown who spent the entire time leaning on a shovel while I did all the work as he explained to me why women don't belong in construction. I suppose I could have complained to the boss, talked to an HR person, got his ass fired. I didn't. I ignored him, did my job and he was fired a couple of weeks later because he was worthless. I wound up running a crew.

My problem with this idiot isn't the fact that it was breasts - nothing wrong with breasts and he can look at 'em all day long at home if he feels like it. My problem is the lack of judgment. Period. Anyone who can't figure out that such behavior at work in a school is wrong shouldn't be there. IMO.

Note that the principal sent the e-mail to five co-workers. That tells me he carefully selected them, and I'd wager on that basis that none were female. Whom, exactly, was "harrassed"?

If he'd sent broadcast e-mail to the entire faculty or been otherwise indiscriminate, it'd be a different story. But that isn't the case.

Stupid? Yeah, in the modern workplace climate. Harrassment? No way.

Actually, this is a good story to discuss with your kids. Provided they're old enough. What the principal did was inappropriate in the workplace. And middle-schoolers and teenagers need to get a sense of what is appropriate at work. And what isn't.
I truly question this guy's judgment. I can't imagine a principal being this dense.
But. If his reviews and job performance have been good, I don't see this as a firing offense.
Maybe he's a guy who doesn't have access to the internet at home. And so he was using his work computer to contact his friends.
In that case, he really needs to invest in a home computer.
Then, only the Bushies will know who and what he's emailing.

did something similar (well, a bit worse) and he didn't get a second chance.

One day the vice-president in charge of our department sent out an email to everyone with a list of book mock-ups (we call them "comps") we needed to create for an upcoming meeting. In the list he separated out which ones needed to be complete ("full comps") and which ones could just have the cover ("flat").

Well this idiot in my office took the email and changed it around a bit. He changed the title from "Books..." to "Boobs..." Then, under the words "full comps" he listed all the women in the department with large breasts while listing the less-endowed women under "flats". Real clever, huh?

It gets better. Apparently to avoid getting in trouble, he doctored the email to look like it had been forwarded to him from another coworker (a woman). He then sent it to a few guys in the office and said "Look what 'jane doe' sent to me!" Well, naturally one of the guys who received the email went directly jane doe and asked why she'd done something so crass. It didn't take long to figure out who'd actually doctored the email and he was fired immediately. What an idiot.

Same goes for that principal.
