Kurt Vonnegut wrote a book " Dead Eye Dick".The Plot : Careless shot kills |

someone. He is one of my favorite authors, is he prescient also. I have always loved Kurt. His books helped me get through my post VIET NAM WAR faze. It has been a while since I read that book and do not remember much more than the very basic plot. A very great American author. If you have not read him and are a reader you owe it to yourself to do so. He is still alive and fighting the good fight. WWII infantry vet and much more. Can put a humorous touch to anything. ...Oscar

1. He is one of the best writers, thinkers and human beings around |
|
Funny as hell and braver than just about anyone I can think of.
And yes, prescient. Sometimes I wonder if he is a time traveler, trying to warn us.

2. HI, I am Oscar. Kurt`s writing is often prescient with dire predictions.. |
|
for Mankind. I wish he would come out with a post 9-11 Novel. He did at one time say that he had said had said all that he felt was worth saying in his books. He still lectures at some University in Mass. now and then. He is getting on in years. He spoke at, at least one anti-Bush event in Greenfield Mass.. I lived but a few miles from there at the time but was so involved and utterly exhausted with fixing up and selling my farm there I did not attend. Shame on me. Webster Tarpley, Serpico and other notables were there. I was that tired that I did not go. ...Oscar

3. Hi Oscar. I'm one of da mommas around here |

;) Hey, in my old age, I forget too much. Do you know the short story (I think, as it was in a magazine when I read it, but it could have been an excerpt from a novel) he wrote about the 'last president of the US' who was an ape-like imbecile and was only functional when with his sister?
Read it so long ago I can't recall much and can't recall the title so I can't hunt it up. Hmmm, last president of the US an ape-like imbecile. Yep, he's a time traveler and he was trying to warn us!
Always liked to think he is the same soul we knew long ago as Sam Clemens/Mark Twain. Lot of similarities if you ever read any of Twain's darker stuff. That episode of Star Trek Next Generation where they went back in time to old San Francisco and met Twain always made me think of Vonnegut.
Last time I saw him was on The Daily Show. He was still sharp and ornery as hell. Gads, we need more like him.

6. Thank you. Will hunt it up and see if that's it. |
|
Yeah, it was one of those post nuke war things.
Talk about frustration, was trying to remember the name John Kerry for something I was writing last week. Could not bring up that name for four hours! They say your nouns are the first to go :)
It does get maddening at times. On the upside, things won't get boring. Everything will be new & exciting when we can't remember anything!

It is a mystery that Vonnegut has not been awarded the Nobel Prize.
Nothing evokes war, the reality, so well as that.

9. Great novel and they did a good job with the movie. I agree Re: Nobel... |
|
prize for literature. Though I like and admire Norman Mailer" The Naked and the Dead " and other American writers of the WWII generation who were actual participants, Vonnegut stands alone with his unique experiences and point of view . He is a freethinker and his writing reflects that. ... Oscar
