Is he still on, and is there any way I can find out if he has archived shows? I went to his "Coast to Coast" site, and it looks like I can get last night's show only.
I just heard about him a short while ago, and I would like to find out more about him.

The original host of Coast to Coast, Art Bell has recently returned to the show to Host Saturday night and Sunday night. (You may not know that his wife died in January).
I have listened to his show for years. You have missed out on some great stuff. The weeknight shows are hosted by George Noory, who replaced Bell a few years ago after his semi retirement.
If you subscribe to ( well worth the fee) Coast to Coast you should be able to find the archived stuff under Show Info on the left hand side of the page. You can also access selections of Classic shows.

3. Art Bell and his replacement are jerks. (Bit of a rant here) |
|
I am sorry his wife died, but both of them are pandering jerks.
Who do they pander to? The nitwits in the paranormal department.
I'll give you the most egregious example of Bell's pandering. Ever hear of Gary North? (No relation to Oliver North)
Gary North is Christian Reconstructionist RJ Rushdoony's son-in-law, and shares all of Rushdoony's beliefs. (They want to replace the US government with one based on their ultra-fundy version of the Bible.)
North appeared on Art Bell's radio show many times in the couple years before 2000, touting his "Y2K doomsday" theories, and selling his "Y2K survival" supplies. After 2000, a *LOT* of people who bought his overpriced canned beans and stuff, are mad at North, and are trying to get their money back. North himself is avoiding these people. GEE, I wonder why! :sarcasm:
Bell himself never said anything to North, questioning his theory or the fact North's theory was part of his "grand plan" where the world governments (including the US government) would collapse and he and his ultra-fundy goons would take over.
Bell called himself "skeptical," but he seldom challenged the blatherings of the whack jobs on his show.
And nowadays George Noory is just as bad, letting every and any whack job blather on and on about their pet beliefs, including one nutball recently who is one of those "we never went to the moon" whackos.

5. Myuncle spent a thousand dollars buying copies of the last issue of |

Life magazine... only to find out it was the second to last, not that it would have made a difference regarding value. He tried to unload them on anyone he could for the next ten years.

I called it as bullshit, and when on several occasions I tried getting through on the phone lines to Bell and North, his screeners hung up on me anytime I actually got a ring tone instead of a busy signal.

>North himself is avoiding these people. GEE, I wonder why!<
I submit that Bell's first "retirement" was due to the rage from his listeners over the nonstop hawking of Y2K merchandise (and the non-event of the rollover,) his show became just before New Year's Eve 2000. Mr. Bell read one of my faxes on the air one night -- I asked if he and Mr. North were attempting to foment bank runs with their erroneous hype of the "event".
Archae, were you one of those posting or reading at "Gary North Is A Big Fat Idiot"? I loved that place. DH's employer at the time was working on Y2K remediation for years prior to the big night; we knew that nothing would happen. At the same time, we had hysterical friends and relatives that were panic buying, stocking up to "get off the grid," etcetera.
I'm very sorry that Mr. Bell lost his wife, but he has never apologized for his role in those days. He needs to do so.

8. I like Art Bell, but I can't fathom that Noory guy |
|
Bell actually occasionally asks some skeptical questions and doesn't always let his guests go completely off into the stratosphere. Noory (the weekday host), on the other hand, just lets his callers and guests go on and on no matter how patently insane they sound. I remember he spent a good five to ten minutes talking to a guy who swore that people were coming out of a painting in his bedroom at night.
