I had falafel for the first time tonight. |
|
One of the professors at UWSP who's from Iran opened up a Middle Eastern restaraunt yesterday. I took my girlfriend there tonoght for a date. She had a Gyro (something she's never had before) and I had some falafel. The atomsphere was awesome. he even had done up a little floor seating area which was a great touch!
The food was excellent. I never had falafel before. It was awesome!

4. No. Bill was nowhere to be seen, thank the gods. |

But the place was packed. The campus newspaper had a big article about the place's grand opening yesterday. Lots of UWSP professors were there, as well.

7. She's never had a gyro before? |
|
That's incomprehensible to me. Here in Chicago, pretty much every greasy spoon, hot dog stand, and diner sells gyros. About the only place you can buy greasy eats without seeing gyros on the menu is at the national fast food chains.
Falafel is a little harder to find, but not much. What part of the country are you and your GF from, anyway?
Sounds like you need to find out what ethnic eateries are in your area and try them out. If you liked Iranian, you might want to try Lebanese or Ethiopian next (yummers!).

Where I come from, the closest thing to good ethnic food that we had was the chinese restaraunt by the mall. (and the thai place in Menominee, MI.) We're kinda lucky to be living in Stevens Point. We that we have a couple of good Chinese places, two pretty decent Mexican restaraunts, a Chicago eatery, and this new Middle-Eastern place.
I was surprised to hear that she never had gyros before. A number of local eateries sell them The campus dining hall has them once in a while (and uses ranch dressing in lieu of cucumber sauce :puke:)

9. You're from Wisconsin? |

*hums* "…with big foreheads like bumpers from a Chevy…"
My apologies, but being from the Chicago area, I'm morally obligated to poke at least a little fun at you. ;) Hopefully you won't recognize the lyrics and thus won't be offended enough to swing at me. *ducks*
Anyway, I'm not all that familiar with WI geography. I assume you're in a relatively rural part of the state? If so, you guys gotta make occasional visits to bigger cities, for laughs if nothing else.
PS—you can never go wrong with cuisine from any region that touches the Mediterranean.

Well, Stevens point is a smaller city, but it's a college town, so things aren't that bad. it's better than the podunk little slice of rural dumbfuckistan where I'm from. At least people here in Point vote with their brains instead of their guns and bibles.
Mediterranean cuisine is awesome, However, leave it to my campus dining hall to screw it up. See my earlier example of ranch dressing on thier gyros instead of cucumber sauce. Also, if you were to try to pass off what they serve for pasta to any mob boss, he'd give you the kiss of death right then and there. Hell, he'd probably just pull out his piece and cap you right where you sat if he tried the Alfredo.
