COLD!!! I just tried to take my ex-dog for a walk |
|
(my ex and I share custody of both my daughters and my dog.)
We usually walk about thirty yards down to the park and then walk around the north end of the park--about a mile in all. there is also a shorter, quarter-mile version of the walk if we are in a hurry. Tonight, I got almost to the park and had to turn around. Despite two shirts, a fleece pullover and a heavy coat, I was chilled to the bone and my face was freezing.
Brrrrrrr!
It's only -5, with wind chill of -19, but I swear it felt like 30 below.

5. She'd walk until she froze stiff in mid-stride |
|
but we checked her pads for ice when we got back.
I was in full-on grand mal shivering mode when we got home. There is a cold, wet north wind that just cuts right through you.

it's not high wind, maybe 7 or 8 mph, but it is really cold and much wetter feeling than usual.

I don't remember it ever being that bad, except for one time skiing in Taos.

7. Whenever it gets this cold it's usually accompanied by bright sunlight |
|
At least in the Inland Northwest it is.
My cats, at the time, would see through the windows how nice it looked from inside a 68 degree house and beg to be let out. So I'd open the dooor and the icy blast would hit them and they'd just stand there in the door dumbfounded and staring up at me and each other. If they actually went out, I'd usually stand by the door because they'd be back within a minute.
