Ok... my cat and I just jumped out of our skin

I am alone, no tv or radio on just reading a post here, no other windows open on the computer and some strange mans voice starts talking from my computer speakers. He said "I don't know about it", The cat is on the printer right next to the speakers and she jumped straight up from a sound sleep so I know I wasn't the only one to hear it. What could I have possibly picked up. I have no voice software so I am at a loss. :shrug:

When my daughter was little we used to pick up our neighbors phone conversations on her monitor. Also I live near a very small airport more like a field where small planes land and sometimes we pick up tower talk on our cordless phone.

11. If there is an illegal CB base station operating nearby

like Bike Writer said, it will come over your speakers just by induction. If it happens a lot, you can write a letter to the FCC and lodge a formal complaint. They take wavelength bleedover from illegal amplifiers very seriously and will investigate. The fines can be very substantial for each violation and they do confiscate equipment.

Sometimes my AOL IM will just start showing a video (movie trailer, etc.) without my doing anything. Very annoying.

like other posters have mentioned.... I live abt. 20 yards from a highway and occasionally get a few seconds of a truck driver's conversation come over the TV or the computer.

and the amp wasn't even turned on!

Freaked me out until I calmed downed and figured it was a ham operator nearby.

Edited to add: my first instinct was to yell into my speaker and ask who it was... but I didn't... :-)

16. You've probably got a hacker.

I once had one that somehow would tie in ominous messages with printing out personal pics I had on file of my kids.

I mean...my printer would just kick into life and a personal pic of one of my kids would print out.

But I realized it was 99% likely an asshole hacker...updated my firewall and security...and that was that.
