Which Olympic Games Are Better? Winter Or Summer?
I prefer the Summer games. For all the obvious reasons: smaller and tighter uniforms... more skin... more visible muscle.

And have you ever wondered why there's not a Spring or Autumn Olympics?

Is it just me... or did the Olympic games seem more "special" and more anticipated when they were held every FOUR years instead of alternating summer and winter games every TWO years.

1. Summer. Two words: male gymnastics
Edited on Sat Feb-18-06 01:23 PM by terrya
And...men's diving.

Although, those skin tight lycra suits male speed skaters are quite nice...

2. Winter. The Summer Olympics bring up bad memories of a bad time
in my life...so much so that I cannot watch them.

I love the Winter Olympics...Except for when somebody blows the score by spoiling it on a message board and then refuses to just be human about it. :hi:

4. Let us not talk about reading comprehension skills
That was one of the rudest things I've ever seen at DU. Not to mention immature. :eyes:

3. I've always liked the Winter Olympics better.
I love them both, though. I do miss when Summer and Winter Games were held on the same year, every four years.

22. Still bores me to tears.
Maybe it was an ex of mine who insisted on watching or going to every ice skating thing possible... including the Ice Capades with Boitano and Witt and the SMURFS! Ugh. I had my fill for a lifetime.

10. I like the Summer games better.
I like track, gymnastics, swimming, diving.

I also preferred it when the Summer and Winter games were held all in the same year every four years. It WAS more special, and I hated that they changed it.

16. You have to have at least one of us here for balance, so here goes:
Edited on Sat Feb-18-06 03:36 PM by Jamastiene
Summer games are better, because I can go outside or do something else much easier and can avoid them entirely if I want to. The winter games all look alike and I am trapped inside waiting to see which one of my favorite regularly scheduled programs will disappear each night. A bunch of people twirling and flying through the snow doesn't excite me very much. Sorry to be the downer here, but I had to interject some "I'm sick of the olympics already" sentiment here. I just needed to voice it somewhere. Back to your regularly scheduled discussion now and have fun.

21. Winter
1) It's cold outside and I don't feel guilty about spending all day in front of the TV
2) I( can relate to most of the sports having done most of them recreationally

23. I like both Olympics
Two of my favorite aports are played: gymnastics and figure skating. I have to be in the mood to watch hockey. As for curling, I am quite ignorant about the sport. What is the terminology? How do you score? What are some of the rules in curling? There needs to be a book published called either "Curling for Dummies" or "Curling for Idiots."

Gymnastics: Men's
Womens'

Figure skating: Men's
Pairs
Ladies
Ice Dance

Besides the Olympics being every four years, there's another reason they were special. There were not too many choices of TV shows or sports. There was no cable tv either.

29. Beach is good but...
there are fewer team members, thus less eye candy. Now if they would just put five women on a beach volleyball team it would be the perfect Olympic sport. Let's start a petition!

26. They've both lost something...
Maybe because it's the 24 hour world we live in, with a lot of alternatives to programming, but to me, the Olympics seem more of a waste of time than anything else.

Like the 21st century version of the Goodwill Games.

30. Winter. I was living in Germany in '76...
The Innsbruck Olympics are the first I can remember watching. Since we were in the same time zone, everything was live and it seemed that German TV aired just about everything - even the athletes who had no chance at a medal. I have vivid memories of the ski jumping competition and thinking they were absolutely nuts, but it looked like a blast. I was enthralled by ice skating and immediately got my hair cut like Dorothy Hamill. :-)
