35. I recently watched Remember The Titans for the first time...
I had just graduated from one of the schools which merged with TC Williams the following year and knew Coach Yost way back when.

Ha, when they made us take square dancing for PE, we had to dance with the coaches. Sheesh

It was freaky watching RTT, especially since I did not know beforehand that Gary Bertier was one of the characters in the movie. Gary had been a friend of mine.

It was surreal to be sure.

46. Wow
You can probably nitpick this ESPN article to death, then.

http://espn.go.com/page2/s/closer/020808.html

"Remember the Titans," viewers are told as the opening credits roll, is "Based on a True Story." This is an intentionally vague phrase, meant to suggest that most of what follows is factual. But is it?

49. Fun article, thanks!
Alexandria did not have the racial hatred as was depicted in the movie back in 1971. That really bothered me.
Small factoid: John Edward's wife, Elizabeth, attended Hammond as well, but graduated ahead of me.

27. Funny story about Rudy
In Reel Life: At the end of the film, it says, "Since 1975, no other Notre Dame player has been carried off the field."

In Real Life: "That's BS," Bob Golic, a teammate and friend of Rudy's, told the L.A. Times. "In 1978, I got a concussion and they carried me off on a stretcher."

20. Another one I like, though it does have a rather sad ending
is Remember the Titans. It makes me feel good to see these kids come together, to work through the racism they were surrounded by while growing up. Plus, I get the biggest kick out of their pre-game "We Are the Titans" dance.

24. Crimes of the Heart
Yeah I know it's not really a comedy... but it is!

Sissy Spacek's suicide - hysterical. When Sissy and Diane Keaton try to tell Jessica Lange that Old Grandaddy had another stroke... only they can't quit laughing about it...

It's pretty dark. But it reminds me that there is humour in everything and there are people who know and love you - in spite of everything.

Although what always gets me is Mama hanging that old yella cat. Because she couldn't face death alone.

"I'm just having a bad day. A really bad day."

Khash.

Enchanted April
A Midwinter's Tale (also known as In the Bleak Midwinter)
Born Romantic
Pride and Prejudice (the 1940 version)

I also love to watch Britcoms and a fair amount of what's on Turner Classic Movies, especially the really vintage stuff (think Bogart and Bacall, William Powell and Myrna Loy, etc.).

I find myself getting so depressed with the ever worsening disaster of the * administration policies.... Sometimes I reach the point that I just can't take the news any more and I need some peace. Many thanks to all! I now have a dozen films on my list to rent!

37. "Saturday Night Fever"
because I grew up in Bay Ridge, and it's like a mini-tour back home and back to my youth. I even went to the infamous 2001 disco once... I can't help but smile and feel nostalgic as I see the stores on 86th Street, my subway station and newsstand, restaurants long gone (Fisherman's Corner) - it's like a late 70s Bay Ridge Travelogue for me.

Also can watch any Christopher Guest movie anytime for a good laugh.

60. Captains Courageous!
Boy-o-boy was Freddie Bartholomew's character a lil' shit! But at the end it had all turned around. Thanks to befriending Spencer Tracy and finallly having him stand in for his absent father(by circumstance and in actuality pre-adventure)

Somebody also mentioned "About a Boy"
That's almost Captains Courageous in reverse. Hugh Grant's character is a total
shit, and by way of befriending the aforementioned boy, turns it all around.
