Willie Nelson records a cover of a song about gay cowboys
and conservatives' heads over at iTunes explode. Boom! Just reading some of the reviews makes me laugh but mad at the same time. It's a song from 1981 but fit too perfect with the Brokeback Moutain theme not to release it. And on top of that, it's good. Wille knew the furor it would cause. Good for him. If you have iTunes, make sure you check it out.

1. One line in the song says the man is merely a lady tryin' to get out...
Unless Willy is gay and can prove it, he's otherwise shoving out another daft stereotype.

2. It's not his lyrics.

It's a cover of a song from 1981. I sincerely doubt that Willie is out to make fun of gay cowboys.

3. I want to make a comment here
without starting a flame-fest and I'm not sure if its worth trying or not

But here goes anyway. Sometimes I feel like people are so oversensitive about anything that might be stereotyping or even "racist" that they fail to consider whether the intent is malicious or not. Alot of times its not. And, look, if you are dealing with someone with any compassion at all a simple comment to the effect of "what you just said really bothers/offends me" is normally enough to get them to reconsider. Getting huffy and self-righteous about it is just going to piss them off and reinforce their attitude/opinion however misguided it may be.

Because there does normally tend to be at least a grain of truth behind most stereotypes. That doesn't make it OK to make blanket-generalizations like that, but please show a little understanding of the human condition. We all get sucked into narrow-minded myopic modes of thinking from time to time, eh?

Because really, too much PC-ness seems no different to me than a Republican scrubbed squeaky-clean world out of 1950s TV shows
