Anyone know of a truly effective way to stop junk mail? |
|
Or at least cut down the quantity.
Credit card offers have amazingly trickled down to about once a week. Those aren't so bad, because I can always use the reply envelope for handbills.
The biggest nuisances right now are invoices with phony orders from Magazine Payment Services of Sausalito, CA. They called my husband once about renewing a subscription. He said he dealt directly with the publisher, and please put him on the do-not-call list.
They have never called back, but they keep sending orders/invoices for magazines that we don't even subscribe to!
For now I just shred the stuff, but I'd like to just stop this shite one and for all. Any ideas?

1. Shoot the mailman and leave the body to warn his replacement? |

2. If enough people put empty reply envelopes in the mail |
|
eventually the cost of postage would outweigh the benefit of that form of advertising. Then it would stop.

7. I think if we paste the empty prepaid reply envelopes... |
|
to a brick before posting, we might experience quicker results. Just a thought.

8. And I do that with the postage-paid envelopes. I just Googled |
|
"Magazine Payment Services" and got quite a few hits from magazine sites letting you know that they do not have a relationship with Magazine Payment Services, so please ignore their statements. There were also hits for complaint sites and a few bloggers who got burned.
Hmmm . . . if I wrote them a letter letting them know that I'm on to their scam, do you think they would stop sending me mail, or is there anything they could do to try to make my life miserable?

3. I'd like to know the answer to that too |

I get my own junk mail, plus junk mail for every tenant that has lived at this address for the last 15 years or so... It just keeps coming no matter what I do. It is incredibly frustrating.

4. I wish there was a way to sabotage their spamming operation. |

Being able to implant their servers with a virus or worm would be a good start.

9. You can write letters to the Credit Bureaus |
|
and tell them you don't want your info given out for promotional purposes. The FTC web site at http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/conline/pubs/alerts/optoutalrt.htm has the addresses of all the credit bureaus. They have a couple of other suggestions too.

10. return the junk mail envelope with junk mail from a different firm |
|
keep doing this until they take you off the mailing list. The companies get miffed when they pay postage only to receive another company's junk.
