Songs you have to hear more than once..... When you play them.. |
|
Lone Justice Shelter...... Cause it's so fucking romantic.... Nanci Griffith Trouble in the Fields.... Cause it's so fucking sad.... Sunday's Here's Where the Story Ends... Cause it's so Etherial... Suzanne Vega Luka.... Just because I grew up with a kid who was beaten... 10,000 Maniacs Hey Jack Kerouac.. Cause it's a song about Fucking Jack Kerouac.... Lucinda Williams Lonely Girls ... Cause it's such a heart wrenching song.... Neko Case Blame it on the Moon.... Cause who the Else are you gonna blame it on....
You get the idea.... Women write and perform the best songs.....

I'll try to locate it again and post the link for you. I bought the cd. But the song really is much better if you listen without the video. I thought the video took away from the emotion I got with just the music.

7. One that comes to mind |
|
"If We Only Have Love" by Dion Dimucci. You know...The Wonderer guy. In the 70s he put out a few great folk albums and I listen to them all the time. His voice is friggin' great. he just released a new blues album which I have yet to get.
This song is on one of his "folk records" and it is just so powerful that whenever I hear it once, I walk over to the cd player and repeat it.
If we only have love Then tomorrow will dawn And the days of our years will rise on that morn If we only have love To embrace without fears We will kiss with our eyes We will sleep without tears
If we only have love We can reach those in pain We can heal all our wounds We can use our own name If we only have love We can melt all the guns And then give the new word To our daughters and our sons
Oh, if we only have love With our arms open wide Then the young and the old will stand at our side If we only have love We will never bow down We'll be tall as the pines Neither heroes nor clowns
If we only have love To be shared by all men We will drink from a dram To be born once again If we only have love If we only have love

"The Only Way Is The Wrong Way" by Filter is the best.
The bastards at Hummer couldn't get the rights to the song for their stupid H2 commercial because the band told them to go fuck themselves, so they played their "own" version of the song to hawk their gasboxes.
Pisses me off to this day.

Rarity...B-side...would have been by far the best song on the album if they'd included it...profound lyrics...just great.
There are many, many others, too.

30. Their very best. Great intro.Merry Clayton's solo is as good a 30 second |
|
vocal as I've ever heard.Just scorching.
Steve Earle's "Guitar Town" is one I have a hard time listening to only once also. It's just so infectious, starting out with the vigorous acoustic guitar strumming and it's only a shade over two minutes long so giving it a relisten diesn't use up much time.

I'm 15 for a moment Caught in between 10 and 20 And I'm just dreaming Counting the ways to where you are I'm 22 for a moment She feels better than ever And we're on fire Making our way back from Mars 15 there's still time for you Time to buy and time to lose 15, there's never a wish better than this When you only got 100 years to live I'm 33 for a moment Still the man, but you see I'm a they A kid on the way A family on my mind I'm 45 for a moment The sea is high And I'm heading into a crisis Chasing the years of my life 15 there's still time for you Time to buy, Time to lose yourself Within a morning star 15 I'm all right with you 15, there's never a wish better than this When you only got 100 years to live Half time goes by Suddenly you’re wise Another blink of an eye 67 is gone The sun is getting high We're moving on... I'm 99 for a moment Dying for just another moment And I'm just dreaming Counting the ways to where you are 15 there's still time for you 22 I feel her too 33 you’re on your way Every day's a new day... 15 there's still time for you Time to buy and time to choose Hey 15, there's never a wish better than this When you only got 100 years to live
