To those of you subsiding on Ramen and Mac&cheese just to get by. |

I have been there, and my heart goes out to you in this time. It is hard just scraping by. When I first got out of the service, I had $20 every two weeks to buy food with. A treat was when McDonalds started accpeting charges, so I could go there once every two weeks or so.
There are times in life where it just seem so hard, and that we are alone, barely making it, and that nobody cares. There are people who care. I know that you can get through. We humans are resilient.
Tonight, I will eat ramen in honor of you!

It's a piece of shit that people can't afford food. But, then again, it's their fault right? I mean, they have the choice of where to work, of course. :eyes:

3. Yep, an abundant choice at that. |
|
So many easily available high paying jobs out there.
I think anyone that works a full time job should be able to afford a place to live, a means of transportation, and enough food. I wonder how anybody now making minimum wage can even afford gasoline now.

15. Yeah, there must be some reason they don't have a high paying job. |
|
And, laziness sounds as good as any reason.

Bad for you big time but tasty. A quick tasty meal if I don't care to cook anything. I do know some people who still eat ramen after graduating college because they're addicted to it.

It's always been a comfort food for me. My mom used to always make it for me, especially if I had a cold or something. So pretty much anytime I feel "off" I'm looking to get some ramen.

Grew up on a wheat farm and we use lentils (and peas) as a rotation crop.
Lentil chile is one of my favorites.

14. There are lots - Cajun style, Spanish style, etc. |

But I was just suggesting rice and beans as an alternative to top ramen or mac&cheese.
For a quick dish, I like to saute some onions and then add some canned beans and some taco seasoning. Stir and cook for a few minutes and serve over the rice I cooked in my Hitachi rice cooker.
Vegetarians know that together rice and beans form a complete protein. Perhaps some of them will have more imaginative recipes.

8. I remember days I couldn't afford Mac & Cheese |
|
because of the added expense of the milk & butter. I lived on rice, beans & tortillas.
I still eat that way but thankfully it's because I want to, not because it's all I can afford.

17. I think I used water when I made the mac. |
|
I skipped the milk...lol. Now, milk is much pricier than it was then.

I bet it was horrible for my diabetes, but I was too despondent to even check my blood glucose. I did the Mac and Cheese thing, too. Now I can hardly stomach the stuff. YUCK!
Cream of Wheat, Ramen and macaroni have got to be terrible for diabetes. I don't think I can be that poor again without it kiling me. Protein and veggies aren't cheap.
