I was just called a stupid dyke on the phone by my uncle. |
|
I was standing up for my mother, father (deceased), grandmother, and aunt. I don't even like my grandmother or aunt. I'm just sick of the hell that he's put my family through, so I picked up the phone when he called. He had been screaming at my grandmother and aunt on the phone for about 3 hours today.
He called me a stupid dyke. An ignorant asshole that still hasn't finished college. It goes on.
I told him that he's lucky my father's dead because if not he'd be getting his ass kicked. Honestly, if my father was alive, my uncle would probably be dead at this point. My uncle accused me of threatening him.

1. Well, I'm sorry you went through that. |

Sometimes assholes like that just need a good ass-kicking.

3. I've felt that my family should have been doing that for awhile. |
|
He's attempted to sue my mother for her old house (originally my grandmother owned half) because he thought he would have inherited my grandmother's part of the house if she died. Well, he wouldn't have.
He sued my grandmother for custody of my grandfather after he was put into a nursing home. He won, but now he's pissed off that he has my grandfather but my grandfather has no money, so he bills my grandmother for his food, medicine, etc because God forbid he helps his father out of his pocket.
By the way, he's a successful psychiatrist and invests in real estate. He's not exactly lacking in money.
He will not allow his children to speak to their grandmother, aunt (my mother) or the dyke cousin (me) or the cousin who dated a black guy once (my sister). Oddly enough, these are the only democratic voters on my mom's side of the family. He also smokes pot. I think he needs to start smoking more because obviously this man needs to chill.
He had my mother crying on the night before her 2nd wedding because he wasn't going to allow my grandfather to come up for it. He sent his wife up with my grandfather. She spent the day complaining that no one in the family would speak to her.
She sent my mother a letter wishing her and my sister & I horrible lives. She also returned the presents my mom sent to their kids for x-mas.
The list goes on and on.

5. The only thing to do is to start ignoring him. No big letters, no drama.. |
|
just hang up the phone, don't reply to any gifts or letters or cards, just let everything he does go completely unanswered.
"I don't have time to talk now, I'll call you tomorrow... bye!"
You need to just remove him from your life. You have to stop caring.

6. Is your grandfather safe? |
|
Edited on Sun Feb-19-06 07:21 PM by oldcoot
I am not sure that this man should looking after your grandfather since he obviously has anger issues and does not want to spend money on the grandfather. I hope that your grandmother saves copies of any checks that she has written for the grandfather's care.
I would also highly recommend that you and the rest of your family save everything in case he tries to sue you again. If he sends or says anything that could be interpreted as threatening, you could send it to the board responsible for licensing psychiatrists in his state as well the police.

9. Yeah my grandfather seems okay. |
|
We get him every other weekend, but he's so out of it that he probably wouldn't tell us anything anyway. He's mostly focused on the fact that he thinks he's gonna get sent to Iraq. My mother and step-father basically take care of all my grandmother's finances and they have a very good lawyer. We're protecting ourselves very well.

8. He's a successful psychiatrist? |

That's actually a pretty frightening thought. He sounds like the last person one would want to seek mental help from.
Sorry to hear that you're going through this.

Most Psychiatrists, not all, most, are only interested in your money and prescribing meds that fix nothing...Psychologists on the other hand want to get to the root of your problem and help you fix it. This doesn't surprise me of this guy. A lot of people in the mental health field should be patients as well... Duckie

19. Yes! This is true. I have a psychiatrist and all he does is see |
|
all his patients for five minutes and prescribe some drug. Meanwhile my pyschotherapist actually has some meaningful ways of helping me with actual problems and not pumping me full of pills.

13. Yeah, scary isn't it. |

He works for one of the NJ state mental hospitals, but mostly he works out of his own private practice (and he's expanding it). His wife's also crazy and she's a psychriatic nurse. They've turned their oldest daughter into an anorexic, too. I don't really know about the younger daughter because last time I saw her she was too young to show that she's messed up.
I actually used to spend parts of my summers with them when I was a little kid. I lived in the city and they live in the country, so I'd get to run around in nature and stuff. They were normal then. It's mostly in the last two years that they've turned totally insane. Maybe they all have brain parasites or something.

I have an uncle that has turned into a total ass. All he seems to care about is the money he's going to get from my grandmother's estate (she's clinging to life in a nursing home). He and his wife used to be okay people. Now I wouldn't really care if they stopped speaking to us.
I think you may be onto something with this "brain parasite" idea.

that man is proof to the world that the good lord above, in his infinite wisdom, created one more horses' asses than he created horses.
Dunno where my dad got that but I assume it's a quote. And it's the first thing I thought of when I read your post.

My grandmother lives in my mom's new house. I just moved back in to save some money.
Yeah, I'm actually just like my dad in looks & personality. I'm just calmer in the physical violence department. My father worked for years as a bouncer for concerts and up until when he got married had street fighting as a hobby. To put things in perspective, when he died my mother gave me a billy club that he won in a fight, a bunch of liquor and several hundred vinyl records. He was a cool guy, crazy but cool. His whole family is awesome and accepting. It's my mother's side where everything goes whack. A bunch of stepford wife Republicans mostly.

12. hang up on him -- don't speak to him |
|
give this guy the cold fuckin shoulder -- have nothing, nothing, nothing to do with him -- and try to encourage others in your family to do the same.
he's never going to change -- and he's quite obviously nuts.
but mostly just take of yourself -- there's no need to take that.

I used to be an honorary dyke back when the lounge was fun.
I even drive a Subaru, and wear birkenstocks---and have 3 old flannel shirts.
I miss my honorary dykedom.

I drive a Jeep (it was free, my car was dead) and don't have birkenstocks or flannel. Although, I do miss my birkenstocks. They finally fell off my feet. It was so bad that I actually tried tape, staples & a glue stick to fix them at work one day. It didn't work.
