Parents who signed the request for the military not to contact their kids
I am still getting stuff! For not one, but both kids. I could understand if they missed my senior and continued to send her stuff. But my junior son received recruitment material this week. I sent in the signed paper to the guidance office to have them both taken off of the contact list. But his week, they both got stuff. Have any of you had the same experience? And who do I call to take us off the list?

1. I am kind of the opposite ...
I'm 21 now. I was never sent anything by a recruiter, nor was I even approached by one. Of course, I was under treatment for anxiety/panic problems during my school years, and I actually left public school to complete my education in other venues. I've always figured that one of these two factors might've explained it, but I'm not complaining either way.

Have you tried calling the school again to inform them of the problem? There may be a delay in how long it takes for your kids to actually be removed, especially if it's computerized (what isn't anymore). I'd contact the guidance department over the phone or in person, myself.

2. I am just a bit suspicious
I can understand one kid receiving the stuff, but both? I am just wondering if signing that "do no contact" contract was just fluff.

3. I'm 26 and I was still getting stuff from them when I was 24.
Funnily enough, the last dude that called me I caught him off guard. I said, "Sure, I'll join, but can I be a general right away and bypass all the bullshit? I am smarter than the retards in charge right now and I could fix everything if put in the right position." He laughed. He was like you're never going to join the military, huh? I was like, um, no. They haven't called since. They want me to be an MP. But I could never torture anyone. i'd get court martialed for not following orders. IT wouldn't be good.

4. LOL, good one!
But my problem is that being able to contact HS kids is written in to the No Child Left Behind Legislation. If your school wants government money, they have to let the military have the student list complete with their home addresses and phone numbers. No addresses, no federal money. As parents, we were given the option to opt out of releasing student info to the military. Apparently, when I agreed to opt out, no one paid attention. I am trying to find out if this is the norm or the exception.

As an aside, if this could be nominated, I might be able to find out if my case is an isolated problem, or that the military is not paying any mind to this opt out option.

9. probably just a paperwork foul-up at the school - do they
use kids/students to help in the office? I am amazed ANYTHING gets done correctly at our school. My oldest (who graduated 2 years ago) gets army junk in the mail but they got his address before the current regime and their bs...so far nothing for the other two (I signed the forms to opt out as well) although they seem to have career days every few weeks at the school and its always just recruiters from the military....

10. It depends on the nature of your request.
If you signed something that prevents the school from giving information to your sons, then it won't make a difference - if the military already has their information. Aren't those waivers only applicable to the school?
