REDWITCH HAS POWER! SERIES! IT"S HUGH! |
|
Now that I have your attention, may I ask, DID ANYONE MISS ME?????
A mighty wind swept through our little upstate town on Friday morning, taking out our power. Me, hubby , 15 yr old son and 3 kitties have been freezing our butts off since then. We have a wood stove, but when the temp dips to 9 degrees, it isn't enough, let me tell you. Last night I slept in my clothes under many blankets. I had to sleep UNDER the blankets because my face was freezing. Also, It sucks to sit in the dark and have no DU! Power came back on an hour ago. I am so relieved and feeling so toasty warm. Unfortunately, I am also sick now and in need of sympathy. Come on, let's have it.
Me all weekend- :scared: Not scared, blue with cold and shivering.
Me now: :-)

And I won't be sick forever, right? Plus, our pipes didn't freeze. :bounce:

6. It was bad. waaaay too cold a place to have no heat. |
|
my kitties were very sad, but they did snuggle very, very close! Some people will not have power til Wednesday I have heard. They will most certainly have frozen pipes if they do not have a generator. I am going to buy a generator at the earliest opportunity. It really sucked here without heat, light and computer.

13. I bought a generator after my first winter here. |
|
I don't know why but Ulster county is always having outages. A powerful generator can run the entire house but I don't turn the computer on when we're using alternative power.
Originally I was worried about our parrots without heat but frozen pipes would have been a disaster. Then there is the fact that not only do I hate the cold but it gives me real body pains.

I was lucky not to lose power up here... my sister did, only a few streets away. Glad it's back up for you!

8. my brothers live nearby, they had power. |
|
We went to oldest brother's house to warm up Friday night, yesterday afternoon for a bit and tonight for dinner. We came home to lights and heat and were so happy. Really did not want to leave house and kitties to go to the high school gym and sleep. Neither brother has space enough for all of us, plus the kitties would be too lonely and cold. I will be happy for the winter to be over, even though it has really just started. Wierd weather everywhere just now.

11. You're welcome. I know how it feels. |

When I was growing up, the place we lived was was prone to power outages all the time during the fall and winter. So I feel your pain!

It was so isolating. I feel wierd saying that with what some of fellow DUers have faced, but the cold and the dark got to me really fast. Glad it's over.

16. I don't like extreme heat either. |
|
But the house was 45 degrees this morning when I came downstairs. That is with hubby stoking the fire all night. It was cold. I slept in all my clothes and was still shaking. I couldn't have stood another night. As I said to my cats, "At least you guys have fur coats!" Trying to keep your core temperature at a reasonable place is hard. I would feel so stupid if we died of exposure in our own house! :silly: Now I have a fever and I feel like it is too warm in here!

I'm glad to hear that your power is back.
We had a furnace go out once in the middle of an Iowa winter, and spent 5 days using electric & kerosene heaters to stay warm. I cannot imagine how freezing you must have been without even electricity!
Take good care of yourself - glad you're back!
