I need hairdresser help!!
Edited on Sun Feb-19-06 10:13 PM by GreenPartyVoter
My cheerleaders are going to be tucking their hair into buns and fastening on fake curls over them, but my little redhead has been impossible to match. Her hair is closest to the color of the first wiglet, but the hairpiece comes in the second color.

Is there a brunette tone hair mousse or something to that effect we can comb into the roots to help match the curls without actually dying her hair? If so where can I find it because Wal*Mart had zip. Her hair is very long and beautiful and I don't want her to end up with a stripe as it grows out.

1. Go to a Sally Beauty supply....They have tons of clip ons in many differen
colors to choose from. You can also get some temporary tint there...but, as a licensed cosmetologist, I am loathe to believe the words "temporary" in any hair coloring. Good luck!

2. Well we've already ordered the hairpieces so at this point we're down to
trying to make the curls not look obviously like they aren't her own. I'll see if there is a Sally's in Bangor. Not sure. Maine isn't exactly the place to be when you want something cutting edge. :P

3. Go to a beauty supply store
and look for temporary hair color. Redken makes one and there are others. Washes out in a couple of weeks.

4. I worry that even the couple of weeks kind would still leave its mark on
her hair. But if the mousse doesn't do the trick and she feels self-conscious about the color difference then she might be able to talk her mom into the wash-in kind of stuff. (I tried a wash-in glaze on mine tonight but I can't see a diff on the grey at all. I guess I am stuck with the semi-permanent stuff and drying the ends of my hair out like crazy by leaving it in too long. :P)

6. Temporary rinses
shouldn't give you any problems. Redken is a quality product and Roux has been around for years and years. (I worked for Redken when they were developing this product, by the way.) Going a little darker, as in your daughter's case, or removing yellow from grey works really well. Going lighter doesn't work. In order to do that, you have to bleach first, which create lots of problems on it's own. The Clairol stuff used to do that--bleach out and color in "one step." Refreshing a color gone grey or darkening a light color works well with the temporary rinses.

5. Try Roux by Revlon mousse or rinse
I buy it at the beauty supply store. It works for covering my roots in between highlights. It washes out with the first shampoo.

They do make a permanent color product so make sure you don't get that one, I think it's called a tint.

7. Roux Fanci-full is a good one.
I use it all the time. I have light blonde hair, which gets brassy between touchups. So I use Roux to tone it down.

8. Don't color her hjair! If her natural color is lighter than
the wigthing, use gel, hair oil or a leave-in conditioner. It'll make her hair look darker.

9. Nobody Will Know the Difference
Just use the wiglet with the closest color. No one will notice, or if they do, who cares? Put a couple of stripes in school colors through the wiglet. Young people have every color hair on their heads these days. Relax, this time of your life will soon be past and you'll have good stories to tell :)

11. Update the bottom one is way too brown. We're going with the top one but
she's still going to have to darken or redden her hair a bit more to go from that strawberry color to the darker copper tone.
