Remember when we chatted about aquarium backgrounds? Well, I wanted to hide my cords (and I had an abundance of them behind my 50-gal aquarium's rear glass, so here's what I did.

I had an old bamboo window shade just waiting to be recycled...I turned it vertical and cut it the height and length of my aquarium (cut it just a little too short, but it still hides the cords), and then stretched it out behind the aquarium and attached it with tape to the corners. Here it is. Cool, huh?

2. Thanks, GoG!
The blinds were destined for the trash, and at the same time, I was sick of looking at the six or seven black cords behind the aquarium, so voila! :D

4. I'm too busy looking at your bearded dragon. :)
He's very cute. :)

You need an Argentine horned frog. :)

10. Danke.
Yeah, bearded dragons live in arid areas. Before I redid the aquarium, it just wasn't right...I had bark chips in the bottom, with the fountain, and, to be quite honest, it just stank. Smelled horrible.

What looks like sand in the bottom now is actually ground-up walnut shells. I repositioned the rock fountain, added the vine and the little aztec guy, and then put the screen across the back.

It does look much better than it did before I redid it.

7. i like that idea
i use corkboard as the background for my fishtank (and sides as well; my fish are more happy closed in on three sides)

11. The right end of the tank is next to the couch where i sit and read....
the little guy likes to stay on that end, not only because that's where his heat lamp is, but he just likes to sit there and look at me. So I won't close in the ends.

I LIKE the corkboard idea. Had I not thought of recycling the blind, I certainly would have looked into that--if you had suggested it to me.

13. my fish are wusses
they stay in their half-flower pot ALL the freakin time, and i've had them for almost 2 months. I don't know what to do

but they seem to like the tank when i'm not there (i watch them from around the corner)

14. Hmmm...I don't know what to tell ya to do....
Maybe get some colorful, flamboyant gay fish that will stay out of the pot and strut their stuff. :D

16. hey, that looks good
I made a lamp shade out of an old bamboo shade.

Plain aluminum foil crinkled up then flattened out again makes a good fast background.

I used to work in a pet store - the owner's husband was an an arcitect. He made some cool displays for the store. One background for a big aquarium was made of a piece of styrofoam about 2 inches thick that he gouged out or burned holes through then spray painted and mounted in front of a fake mirror so it looked sort of like caves - better than my description sounds, anyway.

For the person with the bashful fish - do you have plenty of plants?
