Word of Warning about Kids' Cartoon Movie "Madagascar"
Edited on Mon Feb-20-06 02:26 AM by Yollam
I rented the DVD today and let my 7 and 5 year old watch it, and was pretty shocked that in one scene, a zebra character, trying to keep a little ducky safe, puts the duck into a river, only to see it immediately gobbled up by a hungry alligator! My five-year old is madly in love with baby chicks and ducks and all things related - he has to have every duck/chick stuffed animal, and he absolutely dotes on them.

Needless to say, he burst into tears and was inconsolable for the rest of the film.

If you have very small kids, this flick may not be the best for them. I wish I'd have known.

1. My seven year old can stomach pretty scary stuff, but FREAKED
out over "March of the Penguins." He didn't like the baby penguin getting attacked.
You just never know.

2. I don't even remember that part of the movie.

Different things freak out kids.

If you think that's bad, an entire boat full of people on my last whale watch observed a killer whale kill and eat a juvenile sea lion. To me, it was awe-inspiring and maybe a little sad, but that's just the way nature is. The kid next to me couldn't handle it and burst into tears. I tried to console him, telling him it was good he was sensitive and cared, but that nature's way can be pretty brutal.

The first strike happened right off the port bow, but the successful strike was pretty far away. At least the kid was spared the gore.

Here's the killer whale, sub-adult male:
