When was the last time you were a CUSTOMER in a store?
These days, everyone uses the word "guest".

This isn't a dinner party I'm going to. It's to look at their goods and make a purchase.

1. We've been turned into customers on trains over here.
I reply, firmly but politely, that I'm actually a passenger.

2. Or how, when buying software, we didn't purchase it. We "acquired" it.
As if they can take it away and the money we gave them isn't returned.

(another reason to go Linux. :D )

4. But that IS what they think
You don't buy a copy of Windows. You only buy a licence to use it, which is only valid under very restrictive conditions. It's a brilliant wheeze (for them - it totally sucks for us). It's so good that now the "music" industry and Hollywood want to run their businesses that way too. x(

3. I roll my eyes at being called a "guest" in a store.
My daughter works at Target, and I tease her about working in "guest services."

If I am a "guest," why do I have to pay for anything?

5. Well, Ziegler's Ace Hardware still calls me "Valued Customer"
Knew there was a reason I shop there.

6. Between having no money and ordering online, wow.
It's been a while.

But I agree with you. I just want to be left alone to pick up something or not. I don't need help, attention, etc. unless I ask for it.
