What's your favorite oxymoron?
"oversexed". It's amusing how a term with "over" as a prefix is used to describe a person who doesn't get enough. :D

Many people won't catch the sarcasm and it just fans the flames. We've got enough image problems without feeding them from in-house.

65. Aw, don't be so sensitive...
There's plenty of good guys out there, granted, but even though this was a joke, we do live in the Golden Age of Media Mediocrity. If we've got an image problem -- and I agree that we do -- I think, perhaps, it lies with us to change our ways. That said, I think the problem with modern journalism is linked to both the media and the audience. As long as we're a for-profit, publicly traded business, we'll be in trouble. And as long as the public consistently proves the old credo "If it bleeds, it leads," we're also in trouble.

But this is getting pretty heavy for what was a very light-hearted thread. So, I'll just say mea culpa and be on my way. Cheers! :toast:

45. why is intelligent design an oxymoron?
is it just because life is "a tale told by an idiot, full of noise and confusion, signifying nothing?" Or is it that it is an unintelligent theory. That makes the name contradictory to reality but not, in itself oxymoronic.

62. Intelligent Design is more of an unnecessary modifier than an oxymoron
Design implies intelligence, therefore they should just use "Intelligence" or "Design" but NOT intelligent design - that's redundant. It is important to remember that, though intelligence is implied in Design, that does not ensure competence (if my cats could design a bike, even a really crappy bike, that would imply intelligence, but maybe not competence - though I am certain MY cats would design an excellent bike!). I think this is why they chose the term Intelligent Design, though what they meant was Competent Design.
