If you PM a mod or admin, do you expect a reply?
Edited on Mon Feb-20-06 06:29 PM by trof
I know they're bizzy bizzy people, but...
Would you expect a reply within 24-48 hours?
Had to do with interpretation of one of the RULES.
Am I too impatient?
Just askin'...

4. I did not expect one,
but I received one anyway. If there is discussion re: rules, probably more time is required for admin conference.

Just a guess, mind you.

5. Probably not a fast one
any rule interpretation that winds up being hashed out in the mod forum will take time. Seriously, if you ask what color the sky is, somebody will point out that it's not blue everywhere, the issue will get beat to death and an admin will have to resolve it.

Meanwhile the non-mods think everybody's playing tiddliwinks in the hot tub. If you suspect it fell through the cracks remind the person or ask a different mod. :)

7. I think the Mods and Admins will ask you to take this to a PM...
or e-mail. That's what we do on my forums. We don't discuss such topics on the open board.

8. Yes, if I asked a question that I thought only they could answer
But I don't expect a fast response, simply because I know they're very busy.

10. I'll submit my gripe to your tribunal.
Maybe I can do this without getting the thread locked.
Here goes.

I started a thread asking if anyone had tried any herbal/over-the-counter remedies for a particular, common ailment.
I had done some research online and found three products (among many) that looked interesting.
Of course they all had testimonials about how well they worked, but I don't trust "anonymous" testimonials.

I did not ask "How can I cure my ------?"
I was not asking for medical advice.
Just "Have you tried any of these (or others) and how well did they work for you?"

I have found DU to be an invaluable resource for information on everything from computer problems to home improvement projects to major appliance purchases.
My own personal Consumer Reports and Help Desk.

So the second reply to my query was "Locking. DUers are not qualified to give medical advice."

I await your verdict.
:-)

11. The general practice around here
is to avoid anything that even skirts the edge of medical advice. Asking about a specific herbal remedy is probably out but asking for a reccomended site or book about herbal remedies would probably be fine.

12. Not to beat this to death, but...
I was only asking for personal experiences.
Not advice.
I remember a discussion about arthritis a while back.
I use a "supplement" that has helped me a lot and recommended it.
No lockies.
