Worse than that he's made a mint off them.

6. I liked it for a while, until... |

I noticed they were all about me. My cars up on blocks, my precious velvet Elvis over the mantel, and so forth.

8. But really is that something to make fun of? |
|
Car up on blocks: Why car trouble or have to have cheap car to survive? Not funny.
Velvet Elvis: Sorta funny, but it is such a cliche to make fun of that stuff, that there should be no more Velvet Elvis jokes. It's a fashion statement.

11. He doesn't do it in a mean way |
|
When I hear northern comedians trashing rednecks, they are arrogant and condescending. That's not funny. Jeff Foxworthy has the attitude that he's picking on himself and his friends, not attacking an outside group. So it's funny.
My father has 31 junk cars in his yard, some on blocks. No velvet Elvi, but many of Foxworthy's jokes can be seen around the house. We all laugh at it, not because it picks on us, but because it catches something unique and unusual about us. If Dennis Leary said it, I'd want to stone him. So the identity of the comedian has a lot to do with it. Just like Richard Pryor being able to say things a white comedian couldn't have. (No, I'm not saying Foxworthy is anywhere near the league of Pryor).

21. In general, in the south, |
|
'car up on blocks' is not your primary ride that you're working on.
It is the perpetual project that sits in the yard with grass growing through it for decades.

He get somewhat stale after a while, like BikeWriter, I'm the demographic of which he speaks. But I don't detect any malice in Foxworthy like I do Larry.

16. I like some of his old stuff |
|
When I was in junior high I used to crack up at his You Might be a Redneck and Games Redneck Play albums. But I honestly haven't heard any of his new material in a decade or so. If he's gotten political like that dumbass fake Larry the Cable Guy I'd probably lose a lot of respect for him. His old stuff isn't political at all.

18. In terms of racist uneducated southern shitpile comedians, he's not bad |
|
Edited on Mon Feb-20-06 10:32 PM by Rabrrrrrr
He is certainly the closest to a viable human being of all the "redneck comedy tour" people, but he's still a fucking moron. He's not the typically racist stupidity-worshiping southern redneck fuck - he's just kinda, you know, a one-trick pony ("You know you're a redneck if...." became old about 15 years ago), and not interesting or very creative.

28. Redneck is a state of mind |
|
Some co-workers and I sat around comparing notes, and determined the term "redneck" was general -- after reading "You might be a redneck..." characteristics, that we found stuff in our own families of various ethnicities.
