Is a new ICE AGE the greatest threat of GLOBAL WARMING ?
This is not as screwy as it may first strike you. For a quick overview of the reasoning for such an event please go to < http://www.commondreams.org/views04/0130-11.htm >. There is not any annoying sign in or any of that from the good people at " Common Dreams ". ...Oscar

5. I live in the Northeast and the winters have been historically bad here.
We have been getting record breaking snowfall amounts for years now and cold temperatures. Look what happened in New York City a few days ago for an example. The same in Western Europe. The really scary part is that once the Gulf Stream is gone, it only takes 2 to 3 years for it to happen. Very little time for these highly populated areas to move, and where are they to move to ? Hey I got a great deal for you on this farm I own. ...Oscar

6. The dislocation of the massive population involved would be a Calamity
such as the history of mankind has never dealt with. I hope it does not happen. I knew/know there would be jokes about this posting and they are popping up. For now I don`t wish to respond to them.

7. there is some dispute among non-neocon scientists, but
it appears to me that the melting northern ice cap will stop the saline pumps that fuel the major ocean convection currents, stopping or greatly altering the gulf stream and lowering temperatures in Europe

the next couple of years will begin to tell the tale of rising sea levels

the drought issue is really worrisome, as more and more of the earth's fresh water is "trapped" in nonpotable oceans.

3. Bring it on!!!!
It's getting too darn hot for me.

That global warming will start an ice age by screwing up the Gulf Stream was the premise of the movie "The Day After Tomorrow."

8. Yes actually
As a geologist I am aware that there has been a theory expressed for years that an ice age could be triggered by a period of global warming. It does explain the historical shifts between periods of warming and cooling in the Earths past. Fascinating really.

10. according to some models, yes
The last major Ice age which was at its apex 20,000 years ago, "ended" approx 12,000 years ago.
although some say we are still recovering from this last ice age and the warming we see is part of this recovery. One thing is sure. There will be another Ice age.
