Poll question: Do you HATE Moving??!~
Im at the end of moving to a smaller place. It has been RAINING the entire time and the new place is full of mud.
It has taken me 2 weeks to prepare one week to move all our crap and god knows how long it will take to find a place for everything.
It would be better if we didnt have to work at the same time!

Do you have a horror story??

1. Last March my daughter
packed all of my books in anticipation of a move that never happened

they are still in the closet in boxes > As a result I can neither get in my closet , nor browse through my books

so i bought more LOL

4. I miss my books
When I moved from Southern Cal to Northern Cal I had boxes of books that I finally donated to the Salvation Army. I hated that I did that now. Some were very good and I'll never see them again. Saw a copy of one in a 2nd hand book store and it was selling for $500!!! It was "Interview With the Vampire".

2. We just freecycled a TON of stuff when we moved last month
You're right though, it's insane the amount of "stuff" that you collect.

Check it out: www.freecycle.org

15. Thanks for that. I never heard of it.
I think we will be selling a large house in the next 2 years and downsize.

3. Last summer I moved from my house of 8 years to a smaller apartment
as part of my divorce, we sold off our house. I moved to a place 1/4 the size of my house, and got rid of about half of my worldly possessions in the process. I have little storage space, and a lot of my stuff is now living in my mother's basement.

I had not moved in eight years, but it was one of the best things I did. I got to get rid of a lot of stuff I didn't need, and get a new start on my life. I hate moving, but sometimes it ends up better.

7. To me that's the best part of moving.
I'm the type that throws excess stuff away, but my wife is a major packrat, which is tough in small apartments. Big moves are a good excuse to throw stuff out.

12. I'm a packrat, too
and it was very very hard to get rid of some of the stuff. A lot of it was very large furniture which I no longer had room for in my 450 sq ft apartment: a dining room table set, a china hutch, a couple of dressers, my old living room set, etc.

At least it's gone now, and I don't have to worry about it anymore.

We're moving to Japan right now, so we have to get rid of a lot of stuff. Hate lugging all the boxes, hate the worry that things will get broken, hate the garage sales (Someone actually STOLE a lamp from our last one. It was a lousy $5! Cheap bastards!)

9. Moving is so painful.
There's no way to avoid that I have too much stuff in too little space with too little time and far too much attachment.

:P

It's also expensive and/or painful. Either we break our backs moving everything or the movers charge us our weights in gold.

10. You're a lot like my wife.
I'm much more attached to simplicity and cleanliness than to the various junk in our apartment. If I were single, 80% of it would be out on the curb.

11. I moved during the infamous 1991 Halloween blizzard
in Minneapolis.
http://climate.umn.edu/doc/journal/top5/numberthree.htm
The storm dropped 28.4 inches of snow on the Twin Cities, setting a single storm record for the metropolitan area.

Note to self: Don't move during a blizzard. :scared:

14. As much as I'm itching to get the heck out of here,
I'm dreading actually moving. So much crap to pack and move, and I've already packed around 15 boxes, plus gotten rid of at least 16 huge bags and 5 boxes of trash.

16. We've had our moving truck break. We've had people not show up
to help us move. We've had everything. I now have a small envelope set aside where I continually put cash (bills and coins), saving to pay actual movers next time. I will never move by myself again! If I can't pay for movers, I'm planning to die in the apartment I currently live in.

18. The first couple of days before the move, THE DAY
before and after then I'm okay with it.

Usually I move because I'm sick of where I'm living, and am only too happy to leave the place behind.

I LOVE decorating the new place.
