Can you really put a keyboard in the dishwasher to clean it?
I've got a couple of pretty filthy Apple keyboards that have lived through some pretty serious office renovation.

I've read that most keyboards are dishwasher safe. Has anyone actually tried it?

Best copycat thread wins a cookie. :9

1. I had heard that once upon a time as well...
It was years ago and I'm not sure it's still true of
today's discount keyboards.

If you try it... Don't do the heat dry setting. Take it out and let it
thoroughly air dry before trying to use it.

But, why listen to me... Google it!

2. Google's all well and fine...I'm looking for practical experience here.
Why should I trust some random web site when I can trust the opinions of the geniuses of DU? There must be someone who's tried and failed who can warn me against it, don'tcha think?

;-)

3. Yup... although
I always take the shell apart to remove the cable, the little circuit board and the skin before washing. And make sure you let it dry thorougly.

Also, if you have a remote control that's sluggish even with good batteries, taking it apart and giving it a good brush 'n' blow works wonders, too. A lotta crumbs and junk can get inside.

4. Thanks OR!
I may give it a shot, thought I have to admit a fear of the whole damn thing falling apart into a million pieces as I try to dissemble it.

:scared: :nuke:

6. There aren't many pieces
The keys are anchored, though you can pop 'em out.

Good luck! :hi:

5. I just pop the keys off
and swab the innards out with alcohol.

Works like a charm.
