Poll question: How many times do you wash your hands?
Edited on Tue Feb-21-06 07:06 PM by Nutmegger
I wash, on average, six times a day. Three times before each meal and three thoughout the day. Some have called me OCD though....

2. A ton of times
after I use the bathroom, before I do any food preparation for me or my daughter or husband, and after I help my daughter in the bathroom, and if they get dirty for any other reason.

4. LOL, that makes sense!
I recently read that doctors are slipping on washing, how disgusting!

9. Oh yeah... I've seen Doctors
touch patient after patient in an ER setting without washing.

Ofcourse, we use gloves frequently, but I hate the way my hands smell after I take the glove off.

I work in a private surgical practice now, and I only use drugs when there are pathogens clearly around... hence... washing my hands so frequently!

5. I never counted.
I wash my hands after using the restroom, after cleaning the catbox, before preparing and eating food, after handling raw meat, before volunteering in the classroom - I suppose it pretty well adds up.

I'm fairly certain that washing one's hands six times a day does not qualify as OCD.

6. No I don't think so

That's coupled with that fact that I know how to open a door with my elbow. My peers view that as "odd".

7. Easily 20 or more
I have 4 year old boy, which necessitates touching nasty things far too often.

10. I always have plenty of the hand sanitizer pumps around me
At work, in the car and in a few rooms in the house. Never too far away.

12. I've been using some of that too
Good when I'm in a pinch and there's no faucet around.

11. I'm a nurse
I'll keep count for you if you like...At work generally everytime I enter a room and everytime I leave it. Sometimes I'll use that alcohol hand wash they say is just as good, but It's not effective on certain "bugs"

As a gross aside...they did a study on a certain organism that seemed to be spreading through a certain hospital. They found the culprit was the doctors ties dangling down when they examined patients. Big EWWW factor.
I don't even let my stethoscope dangle anymore. And I clean that a lot too.

Wash away! It's much better than not washing. Trust me.

that's nasty. I can't get that image out of my head! EEWWWWWWW!!!

Someone I use to work with told me that the alcohol based hand sanitizers didn't work at all. I really didn't believe them then and still don't.

Edit: Damn typo...

13. I work with food and chemicals at work so I wash often
I have to protect the product from whatever germs I may have picked up. I have to protect myself after handling chemicals.
I am always suspicious of fast food workers with soft, smooth hands. I almost freaked out at Subway for that reason.
