What have you listened to today? |
|
Thought I'd start a new topic since the old one is over 60 posts. I listened to the American Idol performances. Here are my thoughts on the contestants:
Mandisa - big voice! I see her going far. 9/10
Kellie Pickler - has potential, but needs vocal training. Less robotic than Carrie was at this stage. 7/10
Becky O'Donohue - doesn't deserve to be here 3/10
Ayla Brown - a little more emotional, as Simon said, but just ok 5/10
Paris Bennett - very spunky! 10/10
Stevie Scott - actually am not sure how that song should be sung. She could have a career in her niche. Didn't sound bad to me. 6/10
Brenna Gethers - has no right to be stuck up with that kind of performance. 5/10
Heather Cox - vocals sounded quite thin. Terrible! 2/10
Melissa McGhee - didn't blow me away, but I liked it 6/10
Lisa Tucker - sounded twice her age. Impressive. 9/10
Kinnik Sky - she can sing, but it sounded ordinary after Lisa Tucker's performance 6/10
Katharine McPhee - picked a great song, and great performance! My crush on her is getting bigger and bigger. 10/10
Also heard Belle And Sebastian's The Life Persuit, which could be one of my favorite CDs of the year. Rated it a 9 at Metacritic.com, but that was low IMO.

Right now I'm listening to Thrice's new album, "Vheissu"
Earlier: The Dresden Dolls - "The Dresden Dolls" Children of Eve - "This Island Just Might Kill Us All" Paulson - "All At Once" The Bronx - "The Bronx" ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead - "Source Tags & Codes" The Arcade Fire - "Funeral" Thursday - "War All The Time"
I think that might be it...

Just one more music note: just can't get into Arctic Monkeys or the other CDs so far at the AOL listening party this week. Slave To The System has good rock vocals at least - quite a few immitators out there.

the rest of the day, nothing good just work and blah. The top 3 are what I really enjoy listening to. My daughter is just at such a cute age and she loves to talk and tell me EVERYTHING she's thinking and she just LOVES to sing everything she can think of. :loveya:

Your daughter sounds adorable, BTW. That age is a lot of fun.

A Frames- Fun stuff, interesting textures 8/10 The M's-Future Women, just released today and already moved to the top of my own personal year end review list 10/10
Of Montreal-Pretty spacey stuff hit and miss 7/10 The New Pornographers-Nice little power pop ditties 9/10 Death from Above-an album of remixes that rocks one minute and falls to turds the next 6/10 Sun Kill Moon -Very lovely stuff 9/10 -sub thread Mark Kozelek's What's Next to the Moon-an album of folksy AC/DC covers. REally cool interpretation 8/10
About it. Oh I heard some Creed while flipping through the radio looking for NPR. It was like sneezing and farting at the same time. 0/10.
edit: I skipped passed the whole American Idol thing. I didn't realize it had cycled through again. Anyway there's something to idolize about the above North Americans IMHO.
