Dammit, it said I had to be a donor
So I can't join the photo group. I went back to old skool, Shelved the Canon 350 DSLR and grabbed my Agfa Solette and my Rollei and strolled the U of I campus the other day. I know, I know, I'll buy old film but I won't donate, that's all I'll say about that ala Forrest Gump. Anyway here they are:

1. Those are pretty nice.
Yeah, groups are donor-only. As are a few other features. You really start to take that stuff for granted when you have a star. x(

2. I had one for a long time but
after some ummm errrr, how do I say this.....censorship? I stopped donating. Thanks for the photo input though, that old Agfa seems to have a pretty sharp lens on it, not as sharp as a Rollei but it doesn't draw a crowd like an old Medium Format cam.

3. I see.
I was never a donor in the first place. (Can't afford it. Poor student and all.) Someone donated in my name last year, but it recently expired.

10. see now you don't have to pull your hair out
trying to figure out who it was. Everything I've ever seen of Midlodemocrat has been good, not a mean bone in his/her body. One of the things I've been doing around here is helping students get old cameras. I live right between two universities and while alot of colleges went digital with photo courses some realized that they were graduating students who have never loaded a film camera or students who never smelled stop bath. I have a friend who rebuilds old Yashicas and stuff so every now and then I buy one for a student I meet somewhere. They get pretty excited when they realize they don't need batteries to take pictures.

The last one went to a girl and her boyfriend on the U of I campus and they've been so excited, now if they can find a darkroom on campus, (not for making out) they'll have a blast.

A friend of mine gave me her old Olympus OM10 last year. One of the coolest gifts I've ever gotten.

19. that Olympus has a very sharp lens
on it. I like those old Olympus's because alot of Vietnam era war corespondents carried them. Bomb-proof and could shoot even when the battery died, sort of like the old Nikon.

This is my main camera (not mine but just like it), http://www.rolleiclub.com/rollei/tlr/025.htm

There are so many good ones alot cheaper that take great pictures and when I run across someone who shows interest I either buy them one or send them to a trustworthy rebuilder. Most are around 50 years old so it's best to get one that has been serviced. I can't buy them Rollei's of course but cameras like a Ciroflex or Yashica A are real affordable. I look at it this way, if they like it and buy film then maybe the film makers won't give up on us. Who knows, the digital camera may go the way of the digital watch.

28. Yeah, I love the Olympus...
She gave me a 50mm lens, an 80-200mm zoom lens, and a 2x teleconverter with it. I don't get a chance to use it as much as I'd like, but it does take really nice shots.

12. Okay, that was so nice, I bought you a star, too.
But I put a space between Michael and Harris, so I had to email SKinner to tell him to give you a star.

And, BTW, I'm female.

14. why that was so sweet
I never know who's male or female and if you ask, "a/s/l and what cha wearing" it just gets creepy. Someone asked me once, "what cha wearing?" and I said, "chili-stained T-shirt, fuzzy slippers, and a John Deere cap". Needless to say I didn't get nudies.

Thank you very much for the star :)

35. Pinched Nerve on left shoulder, I'm left handed...
so that's an additional insult to injury, considering I have to use my right arm for EVERYTHING. Right now the only reason why I can function at all is with anti-inflammatory drugs, was on Celebrex, but it was too damned expensive, now I'm on Piroxicam, a cheaper drug, thankfully I have few side effects. My shoulder hurts, my pinky and ring fingers on that hand tingle ALL THE DAMNED TIME. To get an idea as to how bad that is, imagine you hit your funny bone, except its constant. I went to an Orthopedic surgeon for advise on this thing, he said that first, I need an MRI to figure out which tendon/muscle is swelled up and torn, and then he'll be able to operate. Also he warned me that if I didn't get this fixed, the nerve will die, and I'll lose the use of my arm, it fucking sucks. :(

36. I have
something similar in my hands, every now and then I get them injected with something. My wife is a doctor so she brings home some kind of something and sticks a needle in my wrist, it hurts but it sure does work for like 6 months. Wonder if there is a way to get you free samples of stuff legally? I'll ask and see if it's ethical, I'm not hip on all the laws and stuff. At the very least maybe I could get you some free advice or something.

37. Cortisone shots, right?
Yeah, I had my regular doctor do that, besides the additional pain, it didn't do shit. But he said that was the risk of such a shot, sometimes they work, sometimes not. Besides which, I'm trying to fix my shoulder, permanently, I don't want to run the risk of losing all functionality in it, if that happened, it would probably be better to just cut it off, I mean, my arm will be completely paralyzed in that case, useless, and I'm scared of that.

University of I(llinois).

I thought campus had changed a lot -- until I realized that it was Idaho.

Still, some really nice photos.

U of I (Idaho) is a cool campus located in a sea right-wing zealots. There is even this one guy who preaches around campus about how we should bring back slavery because it was so good for our nation. I'll see if I can dig up some of his writings, it'll freak you right out.

The Idaho campus is very liberal while 9 miles away is WSU, sort of conservative.

I love using old cameras, people walk up and say, "what kinda memory card does that thing take?" They get all weird when I tell them, "It doesn't even use batteries". See I was all ready during Y2K, I didn't need batteries so I could take pictures of Jesus and stuff.

I'm already selling those guys Y3K patches for their computers.
