Anybody familiar with Michael Beschloss' LBJ WH tapes series?

The ones that use the White House tapes to tell the story of his presidency? There have been 2 volumes so far since 1997, "Taking Charge" and "Reaching for Glory" These things are amazing if you buy the audio book version, as you actually get the conversations with everybody from Rose Kennedy on 11/22/63 to MLK to McNamara to Thurgood Marshall and evrybody in between. If you haven't heard them, I would highly recommend pickeing them up if you're interested at all in this period of our history.

Anyway, my question is whether anybody knows when the third volume is coming out? I heard some other recordings on CSPAN a while back, but like the continuity with which Beschloss has presented them.

2. Was Caro going to do a #4?

I thought that "Master of the Senate" was it. Would like to see how he treats the post-Senate VP & Pres. years.

Michael Beschloss rocks! He is such an outstanding historian....

So knowledgable, so well-spoken, so clear and literate!

I've seen him on the Jim Lehrer Newshour many times, and think the world of him.......

We are so lucky to have that man talking to us!

9. They are available on book and CD

The books are basically the transcripts of the conversations that are on the CDs.

They are great as they are the actual recordings from the Johnson Oval Office and give geat insight to who the man was.

They are organized chronologically. "Taking Charge" begins with a conversation with Rose Kennedy on the evening of 11/22/63 and goes thru late-1964, I think.

10. No, but thanks - I'll look out for them

The BBC did a great radio documentary about 3 years ago on presidential tapes and I went out and bought Stanley Kutler's two volumes of Nixon Watergate tapes which were utterly fascinating. I knew Max Holland had put out a book of Johnson transcripts on the response to the Kennedy assassination, but I thought that was it. Thanks again.
