So, I was reading another forum, |
|
and a poster there said she was banned here for saying she traded her SUV for a Mercedes.
I think she is full of shit. And to test my theory:
I drive an SUV, but only until I can trade it in on an SLK.
If I am wrong, it's been nice knowin' ya!:P

luckily I am much much closer now.
1994 Explorer, 195,000 miles and still can pull a horse and trailer from Missouri to Michigan.

While what we drive now is tiny, efficient and paid for, up until two and a half years ago, we had an 88 Suburban with unnecessarily large tires and wheels that got a whopping 11 miles to the gallon. My husband loved that truck and hates our car, but that's the way it is.
We both miss it, because it could haul anything and was comfy and was stellar for camping, but it was starting to need everything fixed so we donated it. The tax deduction was more valuable than trading it in.
As far as someone getting banned for her choice of vehicles.... She may have been banned for something else but not for that. Probably for screaming out her wishes to bear Rush Limpball's baby in the middle of GD... That gets a lot of people banned.

10. That was my guess as well. |

That or typing in all caps "Hitlery is eeeeeeevil" would do it, too.
Any of those morons who think dissent is not allowed here should spend a little bit longer lurking GD.

... so who did you donate your vehicle too? How was the value determined? And what are the details as to how you did it? I'd much rather give it to a charity, if I could write it off, then to try and sell it? I'd appreciate any advice you can lend....

23. The tax laws have changed since then, but here's the basics. |
|
Call the charity of your choice and ask for their development office, and ask if they take car donations. If they do, they will give you the information of the recycler they use. (Some cars get resold, some get scrapped or parted. Depends on the age and running condition of the car.)
If the charity doesn't take cars, you may need to either sell it yourself and give them the selling price as the donation (you don't take the income hit then) or find another charity.
We got a receipt for the Fair Market Value of the truck, and the FMV was right at $5000. FMV is determined by either Kelly Blue Book value or equivalent value. Today's tax law for 2006, however, will mean that you only get to write off what it actually sold for, so the charity or the recycler will send you a receipt showing what they got. Usually, anything above $5000 is going to raise IRS eyebrows and make you likely to get an audit, so make sure the FMV is below that.

17. For some reason, I think I know who the poster is. |
|
;) She also tells people that mods can read your PM's, and that there is a grand conspiracy here against her. I did not know she had it in for me, until I read a long, rambling dissertation filled with hate about me. All I ever did was lock one of her crazy threads. :hi:

20. Hmm... Who are you talking about? |
|
PM me and tell me.
I've been told by a couple of mods that they can check out your PMs. But it is almost never done except in extreme circumstances.
A grand conspiracy?I can only think of two people that believe that. It's kind of crazy. I mean, EP has locked me down so many times but it's never been personal and when I need a mod I go to him. Should I hate him? Or just realize he's only doing his job?
A long, rambling, hate filled dissertation? I find that hard to believe. I'm not doubting you - I just find it hard to believe that anyone would be that mean to you.
Khash.
