do not wait till the next highway exit do not try to make it to a repair shop pull over immediately, or your engine will be shot.

Tighten the damn gas-cap!
Seriously!
It will take about 2-3 starts of the car for the light to go away. But that happened to me on 2 different cars and a auto shop will charge you $80 to run diagnostic tests to determine your gas cap wasn't on tight (but I'm a complainer and I got my money back ESPECIALLy after the mechanic said what the problem was and mentioned 'Oh, it's a common problem with these cars'. If it's a common problem why didn't you just check that first instead of charging me $80).
