FCC Reportedly Will Ban Another Four-Letter Word

The FCC will ban from the airwaves "a common expletive for excrement" and issue some 40 indecency rulings during upcoming sessions, Bloomberg News reported today (Thursday), citing four unnamed FCC officials. According to the wire service, the rulings will include six fines and several sanctions against Fox, NBC, and CBS, the report said, noting that they are expected to help broadcasters "identify what constitutes an infraction." (A "common expletive for excrement" came first in comedian George Carlin's famous rendition of the "seven words you can never say on television," although the FCC has never formally specified which words are forbidden.)

a common expletive for excrement?

Shit?
Poop?
Crap?
Bush?

What word would it be!

4. Yes
For you young'uns out there who neglect the classics, the seven words you can't say on television are: fuck, shit, piss, cunt, cocksucker, motherfucker, and tits.

Cautious euphemisms are acceptable. I remember one episode of LA Law where the careerist dirtbag female attorney is ragging on her careerist dirtbag boyfriend, saying, "I'm you, with jugs." But of course the exposure of said jugs would be a Janet Jackson sized debacle.

If I had to bet I'd say they were going to upgrade "crap" to actionable, so they could get even with David Letterman for those nasty things he said to that honorable culture warrior Bill O'Reilly.

10. I've never understood the difference
between "shit" and "crap" anyway. I mean, there is no difference, so why has one always been verboten and the other allowed?

There you have it, folks.

I've been in this business a long time and I thought that word has long been banned. But trying to understand the FCC is like trying to understand the IRS.

describing a sexual act.

And they'll say "we're cracking down on obscenities"

33. TITS
y'know, like in the 80s, instead of saying cool, you'd say "TITS".

Hey, since all the shitty early 80s music is coming back, why not the shitty slang, too?

"Like, totally tubular"

35. Why Is "Shit" A Bad Word?
Okay, I can see how "Fuck" is a bad word because it's a derogatory word for sex, but "Shit" is a bad word for feces. Feces is already bad, so why not a bad word for it?

36. If they have to ban a four-letter word, why can't it be Bush?
I'd rather have my children hear "shit" on the airwaves than watch * spout HIS shit.

37. It' pretty ludicrous.
It's just a combination of letters. Words are only what you make of them. Why do they pick this one word and say, 'It's bad, you can't say it on television'.

How stupid.

Oh, yeah, I almost forgot.
