Am I the only one who thinks the Olympic medalists are wearing CDs?
They sure don't look like medals.

1. Think how much money they save because of the hole in the middle.

It's the same reason that ridges started being put on coins...to shave down the weight.

3. No, ridges were put on to keep people from shaving metal off
the coins, back in the day when coins were gold and silver and actually worth the amount of metal in them.

Shave a little bit off a few coins, and you can make a new coin, and they'll pass as official to the untrained eye.

So, the ridges.

2. Post a pic - I have not watched, even accidentally, one second
of the Olympics.

So I've seen nothing, except a picture of the dresses of the Alps that one of the opening dancers was wearing.

8. Personally, I don't mind it.
But then, aesthetics are an inherently subjective thing.

I do however agree that they look like oversized CDs.
