Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 07:17 PM by jonnyblitz
and one of the people posting in it once made a comment, "no wonder people don't like gays" because some guy who didn't reveal his homosexual orientation supposedly "led her on". she immediately posted a thread with that exact title ("no wonder people don't like gays"). :eyes:

14. No. Racism is racism. |
|
My point (probably poorly implied, I'll grant you) is that some people are quick to cry "You're a bad Liberal" whenever someone disagrees with them. You've seen it, so have I.

This isn't about people being bad liberals, this is about racism not being a liberal trait at all.

I would like to thank you. Please do go over to GD for issues. It's important that the discussion stay balanced. The racism issue vs. the offshoring issue got all tangled in a ball in that thread. I participated in a thread recently that made me want to scream "And you call yourself liberal/progressive?" I'm sure that I've evoked the same reaction in others on different issues.
GD is about thrashing out differences and finding a common truth, although sometimes that's hard to do. Just remember to leave before you start putting everyone on ignore.:hi:

It's a good place to go to see a significant portion of DUers trying to understand the "dark side". I personally find some things there to be eye opening, and my wrath at the pukes gets re-energized on different occasion after my visits to GD.

19. Democratic or not, it's still a messageboard |
|
with all the attendant characters that usually inhabit your average messageboard. Not indicative of your average Dem, I should think. People tend to say things more dramatically, not worry about how they might offend as they would face to face, and often don't take the time to couch their comments in some sort of context that would make them seem more reasonable.

21. Some people work from their emotions |
|
instead of their logic centers. Sometimes people use different definitions of the same word, and it seems to color their attitudes when the same people may agree. And we only have one channel of communication here, so it's difficult to make ourselves understood. All disadvantages of the medium. :)
Being overly literal, myself, I just try not to get worked up.

23. Someone once called posting on a messageboard like driving |
|
in traffic. Sometimes you just react to the moment, regardless of whether you're being consistent in your view all the time. I know that sometimes I'm probably not entirely consistent, and sometimes I do let my emotions get the better of me.

29. The traffic analogy is a good one. :) |
|
It also seems to me to be pretty accurate.
I definitely get emotional sometimes, and I know that it clouds my perspective. Those are the times when, in a face to face conversation, I would just throw my hands up and take a time-out. :)

I wish that Dems were progressive...liberal. I once ran for office. A jewish lawyer was running at the top of the ticket. I remeber him saying something like, "that dirty jew fag" referring to a shady reporter. There is a lot of racism, sexism, et al in our party.
What pissed you off in GD (I'll go n clean house, muderphucker!)?

|
this could be said for manufacturing workers in mexico or china.
no point insulting/abusing poor/middle class people in other countries.
US leaders both political and economical are making these decisions. US voters are allowing them to by electing people who wont tax corporations for outsourcing.
how is this someone else's fault?

Though in GD's illegal immigration threads, there tends to be compassion for workers who come here illegally, while outsourced work to India is usually attacked.
