Anyone else into Project Runway ? Or "reality" shows in general?
Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 09:12 PM by LittleClarkie
I'm such an addict for shows like that, reality, or reality-ish. They are my excape I guess. And I find many of them to be vaguely insprational. The Biggest Loser made me feel like losing weight. Clean Sweep made me feel like de-junking my house. What Not to Wear showed me how to put on makeup properly, and gave me some idea of what would look good on me if I ever had the money to actually go wardrobe shopping. Miami Ink made me feel like getting a memorial tattoo for my dad, but I just know he's up in heaven somewhere shouting "Don't you DARE!" One reason for that is I know what they look like after 40 years of life. His were unrecognizable blobs. Maybe I can find another way to memorialize him that doesn't entail something that's going to look like shit in 40 years.

What do you guys do for excapism?

2. I hate reality shows. period. end of sentence
(but my roomie caught me watching runway the other way.) I used to work in fashion, and I watch this religiously.

3. Would you call it a reality show exactly
It's not really "Real World". It's more about the fashion and the competition.

So who did YOU like on the sho, talent-wise? And who do you think will win at Fashion Week? I've actually seen their colletions already. (cheating, I know, unless they were decoys.)

8. I really like the little japanese teckie girl that was kicked off
out of the last three, I like the non santino guy. I also liked to overly emotional fag, the other fag (that designed the gutter water dress), and the straight fag (that got kicked off during the lingerie contest), as I thought all of them were talented.

My favorite design house is currently missoni. I love BAPE and some of the old guard jap designers as well. My all time fav. is Giorgio Armani during the mid 80's.

There was a designer, I think his name is Mark Vreeland, that designs some takishamio looking shit. He is the grandson of a famous designer. I don't follow the scene anymore (I "gave up" my commercialism back in 2000), but I still love talent.

5. Well, they are instructive, aren't they. And the cooking shows.
I suppose a show with a purpose other than to throw strangers at each other and watch the fun isn't a reality show in the strictest sense. Most of the reality shows are horrible, and the competition ones where you have to figure out which guy is your daddy, or do something gross for money. All about baser instinct really.

But I did like the Cirque one on Bravo. And the "Next Food Network Star" on the Food Network. And Animal Precinct on the Animal Planet.

But I agree that most of these shows suck. They are cheap to put out, so I think the networks are addicted to them.

7. Not even "The Next Food Network Star"
That one came close, I think.

Either way, I think that the networks like these shows because they're cheap to produce. Wouldn't be so bad if it didn't feel like the the Roman Coliseum in the way we celebrate our baser instincts.

15. Any opinions on the final three?
I think Santino is this year's Wendy Pepper, in that he should have been eliminated, but was kept on for drama. I preferred Franco's lingerie. But they picked badly constructed innovation over well constructed but safe clothings. That seemed to be their pattern. I can see it in a way. They want a point of view. But I think Santino was faking it much of the time, with some notable exceptions.

Even so, my underdog alarm has gone off, and I sorta want him to win.

17. well i've seen their fashion week collections, if you want to see them
i'll give the site--if you want to be surprised then don't look.

As far as the final i really love Daniels stuff and Chloe but Santino seems to be more creative, or maybe it's a different creative. Santino pisses me off most of the time except for when he's doing his impression of Tim Gunn, that was hilarious,

I think Daniel will win.

19. I saw them too.
The thing about Santino is that he was an ass, but he was also right much of the time, when he said things like Kara being somewhat weak, and Nick's suit for Daniel being too feminine and sewn badly. Aside from some insecurity issues, and trying to self-destruct with his fuckyouwear on some challenges, I didn't think it fair to demonize him toward the end. It seemed odd to have Daniel lecturing him on his unfinished Kara jumpsuit when Daniel didn't finish Chloe's dress hem and made her look like an old hoochie mamma.

Santino is setting off my underdog alarm. And I thought his collection was quite good, and hardly "Santino-ed" at all. Tim often said his original designs were quite good, if only he wouldn't stray from them and add so much in the creative process.

Did you watch the reunion show? I still have to catch it, though I hear that Daniel F. ends up looking more like an ass than I wanted him to. I thought he was sweet until I saw his website. It's sort of... self-congratulatory. Until then, I thought he was soft spoken, and had integrity when he left. I still think that, and that he had nice eyes, but I can see why folks thought he was annoying.

20. i saw the special, it was interesting, wait to you see Guadalupe--wow
and did you know Daniel F. was straight? This was news to me, i found that out on the reunion show the other night. I think Santino is bar far the most original person there, i would like to see him win.

22. I saw Daniel's "My Space" space. And I think it was mentioned on the show
but only once. He commented himself that he was the only straight, but only in passing. Nevertheless, others call him the "gay straight" like he's closeted or something. Hey, can't a straight like beautiful clothes too?

I think, despite his attitude sometimes, that you're right. If anyone is this year's Jay, it's Santino. But he has "issues." Funny to think he's this year's Jay AND this year's Wendy Pepper, but there you have it.

I thought the others played too safe much of the time toward the end of the show, just trying not to be out. And I think that's what saved Santino's ass several times. Innovation badly done won out over well constructed boredom almost every time.

14. I like several of them
I tend to watch the re-runs and not watch when they first air. I like Project Runway, House Hunters, and several others. I often boycott news shows so then I'll watch one of those.

16. That's how I got addicted to Runway. I saw last year's competition.
And that sparked my interest.

Oh, and I just remembered. I love "Blowout" too. Big Jonathan fan. Love a man who isn't afraid to cry.

21. Ain't that the truth.
I liked the straight gay very much. Actually I believe him when he says he's not, because I love his eyes. He's my hottie.

I haven't seen the reunion show yet. Some over on the Bravo board have said it shows Daniel F in a bad light, just when I thought he left the show with such class. I hope to see it this weekend, and to disagree with the assessment. But then some saw him early in the first season, and I didn't. He was supposedly quite annoying. And looking at his website, I can sorta see what they mean. But still, he gets me.

As for the final three, a small part of me wants Santino to win, just as I wanted Wendy Pepper to win. It's an underdog thing. I thought his FW line was a bit better than the others (yes, I cheated and peeked.) But Daniel and Chloe are both very talented. I think Daniel will end up winning.

I liked Nick and Andre as well. Andre was indeed the glue that held the menfolk together, the sweetie. And I loved Nick's enthusiasm.

Even so, I don't see anyone on this show who equalled Jay in innovation. I'm looking forward to seeing his show as well.

27. I love Project Runway
Heidi Klum is my favorite - I get the hots when she says "Auf Wiedersehen."

And I don't mind American Idol. At least those two shows promote some sort of redeeming creative talent. I think Survivor, Fear Factor, and The Bachelor are worthless crap.
