Chicago is better than the city you live in.
Edited on Fri Feb-24-06 09:07 PM by Radical Activist
Chicago does it bigger and better than your town and if you disagree, Chicago will come to kick your asses. New York City and LA can sink into the ocean! Prove me wrong.

buildings in the area. It was the topic of a project in grad school. So please don't throw it in the lake (plus, imagine how it would pollute the lake).:hi:

49. crack town, usa
50 miles north of nyc... a little city with mad, big city problems... Newburgh made it big in the 80's, when crack made it to the east coast. Crack came to Newburgh first. Twanna Brawley (Al Sharpton's downfall) got her crack here.

You can't ever get ethiopian food in the burgh... You can, however, find over a dozen open air drug markets.. H, crack, herb... there is no meth, but everything else is here.

Newburgh has an art scene that makes Chicago look like peoria. What? Holla!

133. My sister says she feels safe in Chicago
Of course, before she moved closer to the L, she encountered some flashers and harassers but no muggers, murderers, or rapists. She has a job with the airlines and walked a mile to the L at all hours of the day and night.
Of course, she said that if she had been on one of the 9/11 planes that she would have single handingly saved the plane and passengers.
As far as driving, she only drives short distances on neighborhood streets not the highway. She thinks that Chicago has good public transportation.
Stop being a wimp.
Of course, I live in a little town about two blocks from where our neighbor's sister had all her tires stolen off her car one night and people kill each other at and around bars.

61. Suburbs suck harder than Linda Lovelace.
Suburbs are bland, soulless, dreary, interchangeable cultural and existential voids that represent the sum total of the empty nothingness that is the essential American character. Go to any suburb anywhere in America, and you see the same thing: an endless vista of malls that all have the same stores and the same chain restaurants, subdivisions full of near-identical houses...and what's even more depressing about the suburbs is that, looking at this landscape of dull sameness, you KNOW that the PEOPLE are the same, or near enough not to make any difference...working the same sorts of jobs, watching the same television shows, driving the same cars, with the same petty ambitions that can conceive of nothing greater than a brick two-storey with heated garage. The suburbs are proof that the Borg are among us.

14. I'm pretty sure that's true
so I'm not even going to argue!

Alright, actually I have two arguments in favor of my podunk town over Chicago: 1) Chicago is a lot easier to get lost in, and 2) Chicago gets too cold for a lot of people in the winter (though I'm sure it's nowhere near as nastily humid as southeast Texas in the summer but I'm avoiding that fact for the sake of my argument!) But, in every other way, I'm pretty sure Chicago has us beat.

…the lake doesn't make things colder. During the winter, locations nearer the lake are warmer than other parts of Chicago. During the summer, locations nearer the lake are cooler than the rest of Chicago. The cold comes from the Jet Stream dipping down from Canada. The lake, if anything, makes the cold bearable.

Hell, all the recent mayors except Harold Washington have been grade A asses. Then again, you have to be an ass to sit atop a pyramid of corruption like that.

Politics is easily the second worst feature of Chicago (the worst being Bridgeport, of course).

PS — Da Mayor is from Bridgeport. >.<

155. Oh, you're right.
It's not like Chicago has a large Mexican immigrant population or anything. :eyes: Consider me humbled.

159. There are NO Mexicans in Chicago
Edited on Sun Feb-26-06 05:44 PM by Susang
All those guys that you and I have worked with for years are just figments of our diseased imagination. Pilsen does not exist. Chicago is populated only by white guys who look like John Belushi. :banghead:

- The largest Mexican populations lived in Los Angeles, Chicago,
Houston, San Antonio and Phoenix. The largest Puerto Rican
populations lived in New York, Chicago and Philadelphia. The largest
Cuban populations lived in Hialeah, Fla.; Miami; New York;
Tampa, Fla.; and Los Angeles.

And we know that Californians (especially Californian surfer bums) never act superior to midwesterners. Anyway, most decent surfers know the best surfing isn't in California anyway.

157. Can we talk about the skiing in the mountains around Chicago?

What mountains? What skiing?

Just the desolate flatlands of the midwest.

158. I just saw Proof and was reminded of our world class schools
And they are located right in, or virtually right in, the heart of Chicago: U of Chicago, Northwestern, Depaul, Loyola, the Art Institute, shite I can't even begin to mention them all.

PLUS our museums! It's pretty hard to match the lineup of the Field Museum, Shedd, Science and Industry etc. etc.

Chicago Symphony is one of the greatest in the world. And did I mention the Joffrey Balley? Top Broadway shows like the Producers hone their productions in Chicago knowing that the theatregoers here are some of the savviest on the planet....

I fucking love this city, man.

(sniff!)
