1. I hope someone takes you up on it, gizmo.
I don't smoke, or I would team up with you. Good luck.

2. Things my mother told me would come true when I was grown
that I really didn't believe at the time.
The older you get the harder it is to quit smoking.

6. I just quit Giz.....you can too!
I started taking Wellbutrin on Feb 1st. Four weeks later and I am now a non-smoker. Granted, I did have one nasty sinus infection at the end of Jan thru Feb that helped me kick it too, but I would recommend talking to your Doc about Wellbutrin or Zyban. I'm on the lowest possible dose and it's working wonders. It still takes willpower, but the Wellbutrin has given me that extra power to make it happen.

Good luck. If I can do it after 20 years of smoking....you can too.

8. I'm quitting today...
I ran out of cigarettes earlier and just decided not to go get any more. I've struggled with it a long time, and haven't really WANTED to quit. The growing power of the anti-smoking brigade has been a factor, too,in my continuing to smoke. I've found some of the anti-smoking attitudes just hideous and arrogant,so if I am successful I will never become like some of them...and former smokers can be the WORST. I wish everyone who wants to quit all the best. My main reason for quitting is the expense. Every time the state needs extra revenue, they seem to raise taxes on tobacco, and I just can't afford it anymore(and I only smoke a pack every 3 or 4 days)

10. The money is a big factor--
but, it is also getting very inconvenient to smoke. More and more restaurants are going to 100% non smoking and more and more of my friends have quit. And the biggy---our health!!

12. I think I've felt resentful about everything becoming nonsmoking...
and that has(helped) kept me from quitting..for me,the fewer rules and regs, the better!:)You are right,of course, health is the big factor. My two grandfathers gave me the bad example of being smokers who lived healthy lives well into their 90s. Anyway.good luck to you..you can quit:)

13. I know, right?
I think my breaking point will be when Camel Filters (tax incl) cost as much as Djarum Blacks (pre-tax).

Also, is that Michael Collins in your sig?

what date do you have in mind? I'll probably need a couple of weeks so I can get an appt with the doc for a scrip. I know I will fail if I just try to quit on my own.

17. What day do you have in mind?
It has to be after March 3 for me because I'm going to be drinking a lot for a concert I'm attending. After that, I will probably be ready to quit since I seem to smoke way too much when I consume alcohol.

23. Good time to cut back on the alcohol consumption also.
Your fellow concert goers will thank you!

Seriously, In order to feel good while quitting and not work against yourself...

I quit in November. Have smoked for decades. I found that the best time to quit (time of least stress) for me was over the holidays- work slows down then for me incredibly. I also stopped going to my brother's bar- where all the smokers hang out (outside smoking only but ya gotta run past the gauntlet to get inside). Reminding myself that I have not given up anything, that I am GETTING something-good health, better hygiene, more cash. It has not been difficult this time and I feel good!

You can do it, best of luck to all who are trying!

31. I will quit with you all.
I tried last weekend, but failed. Stress level picked up when we had a hijacking of the website I help with. Long story.

I will talk to my son and see if he will join us even though he isn't a member here.
