Underappreciated 90's bands- post them here.
I post this as I listen to Soul Coughing's "Irresistable Bliss" LP, which is really a great disc. I'm sure Mike Doughty never got over the fact that his "Super Bon-Bon" bore a creepy resemblance to "Shake Your Bon-Bon," though.

2. It's a fact
How's his new album?

And for underappreciated '90s bands... hmmm... I can't think of any right now that didn't either start in the '80s, continue to the '00s, or see commercial success. :shrug:

But had no great success until 1990....

Lots of people can hit the notes in the studio. Not many can hit the same notes live. Harriet did. :)

I really liked "Goodbye Jumbo" and "Bang." I wish that band would come back.

(Undoubtedly, someone will tell me that they're derivative and they suck donkey weenies ...)

"Put the Message in the Box" is a good earworm that can last for days.

I don't mind Beatlesesque bands.

38. And isn't "Ship of Fools" the perfect song for the Bush years?
These lyrics fit to a "T":

~~~
Ship Of Fools (Save Me From Tomorrow)
We're setting sail to a place on the map
From which no-one has ever returned
Drawn by the promise of the joker and the fool
By the light of the crosses that burned
Drawn by the promise of the wormen and lace
And the gold and the cotton and pearls
It's the place where they keep all the darkness you need
You sail away from the light of the world on this trip, baby
You will pay tomorrow
You're gonna pay tomorrow
You will pay tomorrow
Oh, save me, save me from tomorrow
I don't want to sail with this Ship of Fools, no, no
Oh, save me, save me from tomorrow
I don't want to sail with this Ship of Fools
I want to run and hide
Right now
Avarice and greed are gonna drive you over the endless sea
They will leave you drifting in the shallows
Drowning in the oceans of history
Traveling the world, you're in search of no good
But I'm sure you'll build your Sodom like you knew you would
Using all the good people for your galley slaves
As your little boat struggles through the warning waves
But you don't, pay
You will pay tomorrow
You're gonna pay tomorrow
You're gonna pay tomorrow
Oh, save me, save me from tomorrow
I don't want to sail with this Ship of Fools, no, no
Oh, save me, save me from tomorrow
I don't want to sail with this Ship of Fools, no, no
Where's it coming from
Oh, Where's it going now
It's just a, it's just a Ship of Fools
16. Lullaby For The Working Class
Fantastic band from Nebraska that straddled both the alt-country and chamber-pop tags through their existence; I cant't say enough about how beautiful songs like "In Honor Of My Stumbling" and "Hypnotist" are.
Here's the video for "Hypnotist":
Great band that is wildly underappreciated...
As in Leonard DiDesiderio. Played a huge role in developing hardcore techno. Helped give Daft Punk their big break on his Industrial Strength Records label. Not bad for a kid who was spinning roller disco at a Brooklyn skating rink in the 70's.
The perfect union of shoegaze and noise-rock. Their 3rd full-length Ejector Seat Reservation is a guitar rock classic, but sadly never saw release in the US due to record company politics. :cry:
Honorable mention to Slowdive. Greatest shoegaze band ever (after My Bloody Valentine). And also to Kitchens of Distinction. They were doing dreampop before it even existed, and had an openly gay singer long before it was "cool".
