Which famous person`s death affected you ?
John Lennon`s passing affected me.I was deeply saddened by it.I am not normally into grieving the famous but that got to me.Audrey Hepburn saddened me also.I felt the world lost a gracious woman.Hunter Thompson`s passing hit me on the 1st year anniversary.

12. Me too--she never realized her true potential.
Under the thumb of her family (esp. Richard), never able to use that voice on the caliber of lyrics that could have gotten her the reknown she really deserved, then to die so young.

Senseless, indeed. Her incredible gift wasn't enough for show biz.

10. Janis Joplin
Her music struck a very deep emotional chord in me, and her death just blew me away.

I had gone to see her in concert, and I had all her music. I still listen to her often.

Karen Carpenter's death hit me, too, because of the anorexia. And John Belushi's death made me sad. He was so talented, and he threw it away on drugs.

Maybe all three saddened me because of the waste. They all should have lived long, productive lives.

Keep Me in Your Heart

Shadows are falling and I'm running out of breath
Keep me in your heart for awhile

If I leave you it doesn't mean I love you any less
Keep me in your heart for awhile

When you get up in the morning and you see that crazy sun
Keep me in your heart for while

There's a train leaving nightly called when all is said and done
Keep me in your heart for while

Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for while

Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for while

Sometimes when you're doing simple things around the house
Maybe you'll think of me and smile

You know I'm tied to you like the buttons on your blouse
Keep me in your heart for while

Hold me in your thoughts, take me to your dreams
Touch me as I fall into view
When the winter comes keep the fires lit
And I will be right next to you

Engine driver's headed north to Pleasant Stream
Keep me in your heart for while

These wheels keep turning but they're running out of steam
Keep me in your heart for while

Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for while

Sha-la-la-la-la-la-la-li-li-lo
Keep me in your heart for while

Keep me in your heart for while

My deepest sorrow at your father`s passing.I am sure he is in your heart forever.Sincerely Lindy

...really touched some of us in a sweet way in the last months of his life. I remember reading a profile of him during that time, in which the now-famous "Enjoy every sandwich" quote appeared. What a simple, silly, wonderful way to remind us all that life is a gift and we should savor it as much as possible. It's still a challenge, even for those of us who have looked death in the eye, to live up to that.

And of course the tribute album was called Enjoy Every Sandwich.

He was a social critic. Here's a quote:

Individuals cannot learn to speak for themselves at all, much less come to an intelligent understanding of their happiness and wellbeing, in a world in which there are no values except those of the market. . . . the market tends to universalize itself. It does not easily coexist with institutions that operate according to principles that are antithetical to itself: schools and universities, newspapers and magazines, charities, families. Sooner or later the market tends to absorb them all. It puts an almost irresistable presure on every activity to justify itself in the only terms it recognizes: to become a business proposition, to pay its own way, to show black ink on the bottom line. It turns news into entertainment, scholarship into professional careerism, social work into the scientific management of poverty. Inexorably it remodels every institution in its own image.

Not because it affected me personally so much (I was born in 71) but because it affected my mother deeply. Her and my aunt spent days crying. It wasn't until I was older that I figured out why it saddened her so much.

My mom died this past June and I had "Imagine" played at her service.

Now I imagine her and John passing a big doobie around, having a blast. ;)

I knew Paul back when he was a college professor, and worked with him on a couple of campaigns before he ran for Senate. I also helped organize a couple precincts before the caucuses during his first Senate run in 1990, and was a delegate to the state convention that nominated him.

I had been out of party politics by 2002 for a number of years, but his death still hit me extrememly hard. I was inconsolable for a couple days. He left a gaping hole in progressive Democratic party politics at both the state and national level, and I still miss him every single day.

Anyone who can piss off both the West and other Arab nations as much as this guy did had to be on to something. I certainly don't agree with everything he said or did, but all too often his was the only voice of reason in the Middle East. His death was a terrible blow to me.

finally decided it was because he grew up with us right there on TV (even though he was probable 10 years older than me, still such a part of my childhood and teen years)

Raoul Julia

locally well known person:Glenn Mitchell (a wonderful talk show host on our local NPR station, will miss him forever)

Don't laugh. He was my favorite growing up. I was just starting to watch his show again with my own son, and was pregnant with my second, when he died. I bawled my eyes out.

The Mr. Roger's exhibit is my older son's favorite part of the children's museum, and I have to work at not crying every time we go.

Dead tour and when the fat man died on 8/9/95, it was like a very important chapter of my life came to an abrupt halt.

I cried for days

81. Christopher Reeve
Superman was my role model as a kid. Superman one taught me what it's like to be a real liberal. However it was his accident that made him my hero. He showed me that just because your tagged with a disabilty that you dont have to waste away at home and feel sorry for yourself. Than when he passed a week before the election and than we when the election was stolen from us, I feel in a deep month long depression.
But after readding his book I am still me I learned the value and potential of stem cell research and I have become a disability advocate because of it. Christopher Reeve will always be my hero. May he rest in peace.

The plane crash that took him too soon. I often wonder what kind of songs he would have written had he seen what these thugs have done to our world.

85. Charles Schultz
I'm kinda young, so I haven't seen a whole lot of famous deaths yet. But the one that I remember most is the creator of Peanuts- Charles Schultz. It seemed fate, and almost legendary to me that he died on the day of his last official Peanuts cartoon.

He helped keep me (sort of) sane back when Bush's approval rating was 10%. I never really got the chance to talk to him much, and the regret still chokes me up.

I don't know if he counts as famous.
